It’s a long time since Richard Newlands was in the limelight, but I’m taking an early chance here with his Supremely West at 25-1.
A more sensible selection to follow nearer the time
November 30, 2023 at 22:15 #1672304Faivoir hasn’t really appealed at all in his three runs so far this season, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him bounce back here, and 25’s is big for a horse who’s only three pounds higher than when winning The County Hurdle, and from a yard who know what it takes to win this.
Happy to have an early swing at him
Benson also catching my eye at 33’s, should Newcastle be off
Edit Final Decs
Faivoir 35’s EW4Pls
December 11, 2023 at 10:42 #1673443This is a minefield still in terms of who’s turning up and who’s not.
I’d be interested in Brentford hope. Still think the penultimate run was fantastic and likely to still be improving despite getting beat last time out.
Nemean lion if he’s diverted away from Cheltenham this weekend as well. Excellent run off top weight to finish 5th in the greatwood.
December 19, 2023 at 04:38 #1674359Still Nemean Lion for me.
Rewatched the Greatwood and he ran a blinder off top weight there. Got Shuffled back through the field after Only a matter of time ran out, clouted the 3rd last when beginning to make a move. Hard to move around the horses reaching the end of their tether up the stretch and was still running on well up the hill.
Ascot should be much more to his liking and he gets a lovely pull in the weights from the like of Iberico Lord now.
December 21, 2023 at 11:20 #1674533This is another race where I’ll bet two. Altobelli for the win around 7-1, and I’ll take the big ew price on Salsada
December 21, 2023 at 21:25 #1674610The greatwood form has worked out very well with winners coming out of the race.
Shame their is only 11 runners for one of the most valuable handicap hurdles in the calendar.
Iberico Lord probably wins it, favoir for a place.
December 22, 2023 at 22:21 #1674691Onlyamatteroftime is an absolute monkey – you can see him looking for mischief most of the way round in the Greatwood and he finally achieved it by throwing himself through a wing- but if he can be kept on the straight and narrow he has a decent chance and he’s my selection at 6-1. It’ll be a bit of work for the jockey to outsmart him though, and a light weight means a tiny saddle so nothing to get your knees into which doesn’t help on a horse that’s trying to do you.
December 22, 2023 at 22:31 #1674693I’m more than happy with the 7-1 Luccia
December 22, 2023 at 22:33 #1674694Sorry wrong topic
December 23, 2023 at 10:13 #1674737Top weight Hansard.
The more I know the less I understand.
December 23, 2023 at 10:38 #1674742Iberico Lord & Onlyamatteroftime. EW 4 places.
December 23, 2023 at 10:39 #1674743Yeah I’m also surprised to see only 10 renners in a 150k handicap. Surely there should be enough 120/140 rated hurdlers who could give it a go.
Onlyamatteroftime for me. He is a liabilty obviously, but he travelled like a real good thing. If the jockey can keep him straight he should be there on this low weight. Also staying loyal to my old pal Favoir. Forever grateful for his County Hurdle win.
Onlyamatteroftime 6/1
Favoir 25/1 EW (4 places)December 23, 2023 at 11:14 #1674753Onlyamatteroftime 6s (BOG), win only
December 23, 2023 at 13:53 #1674786Altobelli e.w , should be on the premises
December 23, 2023 at 13:58 #167479311-2 Luccia for me, she’s surely going to impress sooner or later
December 23, 2023 at 15:30 #1674813Hoping the flatter track and better ground brings out the best in Luccia
She’s better off at the weights with the fav this time.December 23, 2023 at 15:40 #1674815wd winners
