just listning to phone in on attheraces, some one called and said they got comply or die at 130-1 and stuck a tenner on him……are people that mad that they give those odds to win a 10…???
April 5, 2008 at 18:33 #156258The bet mentioned would have been at the Grand National ante post odds on BF and not the day of the race market. The max AP odds matched on BF on Comply or Die was £8 at 370/1 but there was a few hundred quid matched at odds between 100/1 and 150/1.
Some people will be celebrating tonight

April 7, 2008 at 10:19 #156629Story in the Post today that Betfair’s SP system crashed on the National, returning 3/1 on the winner because there were no layers!
They’ve had to pay out at 9.5-1 to backers and settle lay bets at 3/1, costing them a nice few quid.
This is the inherent weakness of their SP system- you can’t guarantee there will be enough people laying to balance the SP backers or vice versa.April 7, 2008 at 10:51 #156638It presents BF with a big problem. The calculation basically depends on there being enough SP layer liabiltiy to stand SP backers. When this doesn’t happen they have to go into the unmatched exchange market and match bets there to pay the SP backers. On Saturday they had to go deep into the exchange to pay the backers and the SP tumbled. The system failed its first major test badly.
As it stands there in nothing to stop it happening again on Derby Day. Also the big bookmakers could easily place big SP bets on the exchange and force the SP to collapse on every race if they wanted, leaving BF with no option but to manipulate the SP for marketing purposes and standing the losses themselves as happened on Saturday.
It will be very interesting to see how they handle this and what solutions will be forthcoming because a massive loophole was exposed on Saturday.
April 7, 2008 at 11:25 #156644What price the whole thing gets quietly shelved? Looks an insoluble problem to me- as you rightly point out, also very open to outside manipulation…..
April 7, 2008 at 11:37 #156646I noticed on the day that the betfair sp was 4.28 and thought it must’ve been a mistake. On a slightly different topic, anyone know if you can see the history of a race on betfiar (i.e how much was matched on a particular horse at what prices?) It’s annoying that you have to basically look immediately the race has ended or you can’t see it.
April 7, 2008 at 12:47 #156660That doesn’t give what aphardy is looking for- there was a site which did but I’ve forgotten the url.
April 7, 2008 at 13:08 #156664So sorry.
I have deleted it.
