My worry about Martys Mission is that he’s just not good enough but, having backed him when I thought it was a 30 runner race I’m just pleased that I’m getting a run for my money! Owner has flown in to see the race, probably to see My Will and Hoo La Baloo but, y’never know, might be to see MM win. I think not. Some horses you just follow over the edge of cliffs, and he’s one of them.
April 23, 2010 at 17:02 #291974Church Island for me – I just can’t see why he’s such a big price on the strength of two irrelevant hurdles runs.
I like the conditional rider too.
April 23, 2010 at 19:10 #292030Horses have won this race twice in the past – Ad Hoc for one, so have had a v.small win only investment on Lacdoudal and Monkerhostin, with formerly placed Hoo La Baloo.
I love you Arceye!!!!
April 23, 2010 at 20:32 #292052Hi guys, been posted missing for a while, maybe I can "go well fresh" from a punting perspective!
Hoo La Baloo @ 14-1 and Tamarinbleu @ 25-1 will do for me.
April 23, 2010 at 22:25 #292082He’s the only bigger priced horse that was being backed all week even when it looked as if he might not even get a run. Got the feeling that people were expecting a big run from him last week.

Marty’s Mission trains close by to me and my worry would be the distance.
Down the bottom there is
Nostringsattached
and I had a wee ew ratio bet with Coral @ 16-1 a few minutes ago.
Backed him at 25’s last week. Think he has a .great chance.

Just Amazing will love the ground but Christian Williams? wont be carrying my money that’s for sure. Then what happened I have no idea….Quite frankly this is a pig of a race and it will take more than trends to get half of them round never mind win.
The Package got rid of Graham Lee early enough so his National run shouldn’t have taken too much out of him.
I’d give him as good a chance as any.Air Forse One could pick this lot up and carry them at the weights if CM could get him right but he’s so problematic and always looks like he’s an accident waiting to happen….too dodgy for me.
Further down the handicap Alderburn 33/1 and 49 on the machine look worth an interest on this ground.
Then if you look even further down Nostringsattached
This horse was laid out for the Kim Muir in the hope he would get good or even better, good to firm ground. Unfortunately there was a bit of cut and really his chance had gone before the tapes went up.
He’s still like a fresh horse, has no weight on his back and if Richie can hold him together he must go very close. Still a bit of 14/1 about him for those who are brave enough to have a bet in this bollox of a race.
1. Nostringsattached
2. Alderburn
3. Tha PackageApril 24, 2010 at 08:58 #292134Martys Mission, Nostringsattached, Alderburn, Hoo Lo Baloo and Church Island. Tempted to top up on Church Island who seems to have been totally overlooked, although his form this year has been poor. However, betting aside would love to see Monkerhostin or Hello Bud win, both in the twilight of their careers [at least, Hello Bud should be, but is possibly only just getting started…]
April 24, 2010 at 14:22 #292199well done Church backers
my two jumped like a pair of clowns on stilts dreadful
April 24, 2010 at 14:29 #292200What a good ride from Adrian Heskin. He did well to save the horse before kicking on, whereas he was probably too aggressively-ridden last year.
April 24, 2010 at 14:31 #292202Well done Young Fella
33/1 in a place..
Drinks are on you
April 24, 2010 at 14:34 #292204Thanks Wallace.
Aww I missed the 33s but got plenty of 28s last night. Mustn’t grumble
April 24, 2010 at 14:34 #292205April 24, 2010 at 15:33 #292224Any news on the horses that pulled up [especially Kilcrea Castle]?
April 24, 2010 at 16:19 #292240Well done Young Fella, good call.
Fingers crossed for Kilcrea Castle, but it didn’t look good!
Was delighted to see my old fave Monkerhostin run such a big race, and I hate to say it, but I’d really like to see him retired now!
April 24, 2010 at 17:06 #292254Martys Mission seemed a bit sore after the last fence as well; I thought he was getting into the race quite nicely for a while. If he’s ok I’ll still have to keep an eye on him. Worth noting that 3 of the first 4 had very good claimers on board taking off quite a bit of weight. The Package was staying on well after a mistake earlier on. Do think it was a mistake to run My Will after the rotten time he must have had in the National. Makes note to oneself..back every horse of Phillip Hobbs ew next year. Agree about Monkerhostin.
April 24, 2010 at 17:32 #292259Haven’t seen or heard any news about Kilcrea Castle yet, but I haven’t looked too hard.
I just wanted to mention to Peter that it is the final nail in the Irish Raptor stamina debate. Had nice ground, but stamina still gave out just before the Pond fence (final time). Amazing that NATD keeps on running the horse at these distances, and the horse keeps his enthusiasm.
I was thinking that this post creates the wrong impression, and that for Pete’s sake, and people who haven’t read other threads, that it was originally Peter who said that Irish Raptor didn’t stay, and me who suggested that he did.
