Given we have just passed four of the most expensive race days of the year I was looking for some thoughts on the best value for money meetings/festivals in the UK, flat or NH. Based on admission price, quality of racing and racegoer facilities.
I think York’s offer of £40 for the grandstand at the 3 day Dante meeting in May is hard to beat. £77 for the County Stand ain’t bad either.
I recall Newbury use to do multi day packages for the likes of the Lockinge meeting but alas they seem to have replaced these with punters packages which don’t look such good value.
Anyone beat the York offer?
March 21, 2011 at 21:39 #346632Lingfield Winter Derby Day for £13.50 – the best AW racing day you’ll see in Europe and without silly crowds and queues.
March 21, 2011 at 22:14 #346640I would have thought Towcester with free admission (apart from Bank Holiday and summer evening meetings) represents best value.
March 21, 2011 at 23:07 #346653Did I read somewhere that some courses are offering free admission to one raceday over the next few weeks/months?
March 22, 2011 at 00:18 #346668They are indeed throughout April Mo although some have already had their allocation taken.
March 22, 2011 at 00:27 #346669Exeter is free today (tuesday) for students, but don’t think that includes form students.
March 24, 2011 at 18:04 #347067If it lives up to the claims made for it, £26 for a grandstand ticket for Champions Day at Ascot on Oct 15th seems dirt cheap when compared to the Royal meeting.
Especially when you consider the report on the Music Nights thread that Sandown are charging £33 for a mundane evening meeting followed by the Scissor Sisters. Newmarket also charge in the region of £30 for their music nights and you don’t get any £1.3M Group 1 races on those cards.

March 24, 2011 at 18:14 #347068Betfair are offering half price admission to Ascot throughout the year apart from the Royal Meet using the promotion code BETSGORACING.
Doesn’t say whether it applies for the Champs Day meet but if you can use for that day as well then it could be deemed even better value.May 20, 2011 at 16:27 #356251The South Durham Point-to-Point at Mordon, Co. Durham last Saturday was once again free of charge to get in.
If that wasn’t enough, it featured a 3m5f Confined race.
Massive kudos to John "Always Right" Wade for upholding this free entry for several years now. Long may it, and him, continue to prosper.

May 21, 2011 at 09:52 #356379I always think the Thursday at Aintree is the best value of the year. £23 (I think) in Tatts for a great days racing including 3 Grade 1’s and the Foxhunters.

And just to prove that the sun shines on the righteous, he’s had a rattling good year with his horses!

Hasn’t he just. Not only with Always Right, of course, but also with some of the horses he has in with other people at present.
He and Keith Reveley must be thinking about the Summer Plate for Benny Be Good now after his victory in the Collins Seafood Series Final at Sedgefield on Durham National day. As well they might!
