GC, Taunton races is the best for……………………………….yeah right you are nothing!
Unfortunatly due to family and work commitments i find it differcult to find the time to go to venues such as Aintree, Ascot, Cheltenham, Sandown, York, hey even Cartmel
but one day i will spread my wings. If you are going to Taunton races anytime be sure to let me know, we could meet up or even try to arrange a TRF meet up or something, although it would be a long trek for Cormack.
I very much doubt things have changed since 2005 due to Taunton racecourse being years behind everyone else, not just the racecourse i swear this is the only place in the country without petrol, or is anyone else having problems filling up?

June 17, 2008 at 08:57 #168669That sounds like a deal, Nathan! I’ll have a dig through the autumn fixtures there and let you know in good time.
There have been Southern, East Anglian (by virtue of several impromptu meet-ups at point-to-points), Midlands (alright, Towcester) and possibly also Scottish TRF meet-ups so far this year of varying degrees of official-ness, but nothing in Wales or the West Country for as long as I can remember! A friendly wee midweek meet-up at Britain’s second newest racecourse sometime this October or November seems a good way to put that right.
I heard about the petrol problems in the South West as a whole – 600 out of 9000 (6.7%) of all petrol stations in the country are dry, but your neck of the woods has fared worst of all. Meanwhile, isn’t there somewhere in Devon that’s resorted to charging £1.99 a litre for what it’s got left? Jaw-dropping.

…the chance to stand by the last fence, then dash across the in-field to see them down the back straight………., unless things have changed since I went there.

June 26, 2008 at 19:53 #170259Redcar is a great day out, i found it a very friendly racecourse.
Sandown is probably my fave – Variety Club Day and Coral Eclipse Day are both great days out.
Cheltenham Festival is awesome – but i would miss out Royal Ascot, any Newmarket meetings (the sales is more fun) and Epsom.Doncaster is ok, Chester is awesome, York is pretty good, but i stil love ol’ Newbury (Totesport Gold Trophy Day and of course the Hennessey)
But i reckon a good summer day out would include having a decent band playin in the evening – i see UB40 is at Newbury soon
was that any help??

June 27, 2008 at 16:06 #170382I know this wasn’t quite the idea but the worst… easily Welsh national day for me.
Stuck in traffic from half way across the Severn bridge all the way to the course, twas f*****g freezing, lashed down all day and could find no cover.
Plus it was comparatively expensive to get in (about £30 iirc).
Still have nightmares about the ordeal some three years later.
