Nicky Henderson for me was robbed at Cheltenham of the chance to prove Binocular is the best 4yo hurdler in training.

All being well he could get a chance to prove it next week at Aintree.

He and Franchoek are entered in the 4 yo old hurdle along with Triumph Hurdle winner Celestial Halo.

Nicky Henderson has once again stressed he want’s to run the horse and he could get the chance.

Franchoek can’t possible beat Celestial Halo IMO he simply isn’t good enough he has neither the class or the pace.

I still maintain Binocular is the best 4yo hurdler seen for many years and given the chance next week will put Celestial Halo firmly in his place. He needs tons of work and looked slight flat in the closing stages in the Supreme and it would suprise me if he has come on a fair bit from that race……….Just show me some prices and I will be first in

Mebbe aye, mebbe no, and mebbe och the noo. Time will tell. But Celestial Halo’s flat form was very good for a hurdler.

I’m with Fist on this one. Binocular demonstrated a high cruising speed at Cheltenham and Aintree will suit him better than it will Celestial Halo.

Nice horse that Binocular is, I can’t see Aintree being his track. Looking at his hurdles form so far, his Kempton run seems an anomalous spot on his otherwise fairly steep upwards curve. That probably means he either didn’t suit the ground (it didn’t seem to cause him too much trouble on the flat however), or he didn’t suit the sharp course. Furthermore, given the styles in which both he and Celestial Halo ran at Cheltenham I wouldn’t give Binocular too much chance of going past Nicholls’ charge regardless of how strongly he travels.

Its all ground dependant Fists, I think that Binocular is the classiest of the big 3 three at 2miles, but don’t think he would have won the Triumph.

Celestial Halo is an out and out stayer and got testing ground in the triumph and turned it into a grueling slog, if he gets the same ground at Aintree then I think it will be between him and Franchoek.

If the ground is good then I think Binocular will cut them to ribbons. The Nicholls horse Perrot Lunaire who was second to binocular in the adonis looked to like good ground and Nicholls seemed pleasantly surprised by his performance, he could have some improvement, but would have to be a decent price for an e/w I think

Celestial Halo has to run first and I have no idea what PN’s plans are nor do I know what JP and Frank Berry will decide to do.

Nicky Henderson was messed about big time before Chelteham and stated he thought the horse might miss the festival and go to Aintree. The whole thing stank to me as Binocular was taken out of the betting by all firms for 36 hours and not one mention anywhere why.

Henderson was adamant the Triumph course would suit Binocular but the powers that be obviously though Franchoek was a snip for the race and the money went pouring on him……how wrong they were

The Supreme Novices at the end of the day looked to be a far better race in my eyes. Binny looked like the winner at the top of hill he’s quickened realy well turning for home and looks to be holding Captain Cee Bee then he’s gone the minute he jumped the last……….maybe he was just outcleased by an older horse maybe he wasn’t quite 100% If it was an 11th hour decision like we are led to believe then had Nicky Henderson been as hard on Binocular as he may have been had he known he was going to run?. Who knows!!!

Franchoek has an alternative engagement at Aintree which may or may not mean they will run Binocular………I hope this time they make it 100%clear and don’t mess about like the last time.

I disagree Binocular needs good ground and that is not a concern. He trotted up at Ascot in the mud…….he wasn’t 100% for according to Nicky Henderson and still won despite jumping moderately on good ground at Kempton. The gound at Cheltenham was bloody awful according to most people yet he’s still ran a blinder.

Just get him to Aintree and IMO he’ll do the rest. Celestial Halo may have been a very good flat horse……they say he would have to give Franchoek about 3 stone on the flat………he hasn’t come across as 3 stone better than him over hurdles that’s for sure and Binocular isn’t Franchoek.

I said he was a Champion Hurdle horse the first time I saw him..I haven’t changed my mind and can’t see Celestial Halo beating him but we can all be wrong……..what I do know is if they do meet and I am wrong it will cost me penty to find out  ………I’ll back the ass of him on Saturday and I already backed him in Champion for next year…..Mad as that may seem I did get 22/1 he wins this well he won’t be 10’s …wonder if they woud give me evens the double Kauto and Master Minded to cover my ass:0

I personally think that binocular handles testing ground, but because of his speed he will be best suited to good ground.

He won a slow paced race on testing ground at ascot showing a really good turn of foot, then he won the adonis on good ground despite looking nowhere near prepped and making plenty of mistakes. Then in a well paced race at cheltenham on testing ground he has ran a blinder, and he kicked of the turn like the winner but was outstayed up the hill by captain cee bee who looks a really good horse.

Celestial Halos race was the fastest paced hurdle race of the week at cheltenham, I personally think he’s a world hurdle type, he galloped them into the ground, I dont know if Binocular would have been able to quicken off that gallop. But my view with good ground is that celelstial halo can set a harsh gallop but binocular will be able to travel with him and quicken better than him at the end.

Interesting that Furmigadelaguista just ran a decent second to Soapy Danger on the the Flat at Doncaster today. Binocular absolutely humped him in the adonis

Binocular didn’t win a great race on his debut, was made to work hard at Kempton and was beaten fair and square at Cheltenham – if he’s the best around, especially the ‘best for many years’, then we’re struggling.

You could be right LGR he only had dual winner Crack Away Jack behind him who won the Fred Winter beating Ashkazar who won the Imperial Gold Cup. Oh and lets not forget Metaphoric who also franked the form and then finished 5th of the 22 runners in the Fred Winter…..pretty crap race right enough

I suppose the fact Binocular is a 4 year old who went to Cheltenham and took on some the best of England’s and Ireland’s 5,6 and 7 year old novice hurdlers and beat all but one makes him ordinary as well.

Another one of your "Let’s have a dig at Fist posts" geez you’re getting worse…before you used to think before you types now it’s just a mixture of tripe and sarcasm……..give it up mate you are becoming exceedingly boring

The Adonis wasn’t as bad a race as some people made out the first two put 11 lengths between themselves and the third in a short run in…….but he will have to do better than that at Aintree….remember the second was PN’s who said he "has a real engine" but as good as he might be, you would have to believe he wouldn’t be as good as Celestial Halo.

I’ll just agree with everything you say then shall I, FOF?

Crack Away Jack has improved significantly from his run behind Binocular, but Metaphoric won a poor race at Warwick, receiving weight, and was hammered in the Fred Winter (he may have been 5th, but he was 26l back). Add to that the dismal failures of Norman The Great, and the over-rated Approved Force (beaten further since) in 5th, and the race doesn’t look all that brilliant.

Whilst I wouldn’t consider myself much of a follower of trends as such, I’d have to say that Henderson’s record at the Aintree National meeting hardly makes Binocular a ‘have your bollocks on’ type of proposition.

Fist is talking **** as usual, he’s talking from his heart rather than his head.

He never answered my question on another thread which leads me to believe that Fist is a fantasist. If you think he lives in Thailand then you’re mad – he lives in a council flat and has 10p Lucky 15’s every day!

Come on Fist answer the question. You are on record as saying that if either of your main selections won at Chelt, you were going to put all your winnings on KS to win this years and next years Gold Cup…

So did you do it (which would make you skint), or are you a liar (as must of us suspect)?

Fair play to FoF for putting his neck on the line, but it would take a great leap of faith to believe that Binocular is something really special. To call the Supreme a strong race ignores the fact that there were no genuinely outstanding contenders coming into the race and it must rank, on the whole, as one of the poorer versions in recent years, for all the first two are very likeable types. Binocular has every chance of winning at Aintree as I doubt the race is up Franchoek’s street, but it’s hardly likely to show him as a prospective champion hurdler.
