MY ass would drop out my trousers if first buddy won this
but I do agree with you on the double especially with the condotions for racing liely to be near perfect……..and even safer bet looks to be the 6/4 plus about Kauto and Master Minded if you can get your bookie to lay you 1/2 the latter. Even 4/9 or 2/5 looks a cracking bet as he has nothing to beat. The treble is also there for the taking as we are talking about 3 of the top 4 horses in the country.I would be amazed if Inglis Drever wins the first if a lot of bookies aren’t put in a position where they are very likely to lose fortunes. It’s just a case of finding a bookie who will lay you the above and they are out there.
April 3, 2008 at 13:13 #155415A bit of a worry for me, with regards Binocular that the ground may not actually be that good, looking at the first race…
April 3, 2008 at 14:15 #155464Get in, the best 4yo novice by some way, bring on the champ hurdle 2009…
April 3, 2008 at 14:16 #155465He is so impressive.
Fantastic stuff.
April 3, 2008 at 14:18 #155466Pagan Starprincess was running on well there, and could have claimed third if it wasn’t for the tumble at the last. One for the notebook.
April 3, 2008 at 14:23 #155468Great performance by Binocular.
However, Harper Valley made a mistake at EVERY hurdle. If he jumped even remotely moderately, I think he would have made a race of it. Lost so many lengths at every hurdle. Not saying he would have beat Binocular, but I think he may have had a race on his hands. Jumping the name of the game though as Kauto showed in the race before. If you don’t jump you don’t win.
April 3, 2008 at 14:23 #155470Fair to say Straw Bear & Captain Cee Bee are going chasing next year.

EDIT: Re, Anzum. I agree that Harper Valley is better than the bare form will suggest there. Had he not blootered 2 out he could well have given Celestial Halo something to think about.
April 3, 2008 at 14:24 #155471Well the bookies seem to be going around 7s and 8s, with a few at 10s and 1 at 12s (which shouldnt last long) for the champ hurdle so 20s and 16s certainly looks good now, did you get on fists.
April 3, 2008 at 14:24 #155472Get in Binocular – wooohoooo!!

He looked very, very classy. I thought when watching him at Cheltenham he’d be an Aintree horse. That’s not to say he can’t make into a Champion hurdler he might just need holding up a bit longer at Cheltenham IMO.
Only a 4yo, I think Fist got it right a while ago this horse is going to be very, very good. Has to be on the short list for a Champion hurdle given the average nature of the two mile division.
I think both Binocular and Captain Cee Bee would’ve gone very close in this years Champion hurdle had they run.

22/1 mate fookin Bahamas right after the Champion
April 3, 2008 at 14:41 #155481Nice one, think that price will look silly by next year. Still think he’s best on good ground and if that is how cheltenham is next year then I’ll be confident.
Am going to try and get on Celestial Halo for the 2009 world hurdle too, its a weak division and he is a special looking horse, whose main strength is staying. Should have went for the franchoek race today.

The time of the Sumpreme compared favourably with the Champion.
April 3, 2008 at 16:39 #155537Connections said no, last I heard, unless theyve changed their minds. Would love to see Captain Cee Bee go chasing though, he does look like a chaser but wins hurdle races like a very good hurdler, so theres a big decision to be made.
April 3, 2008 at 16:48 #155543Think they will both be staying hurdling IMO. Champion Hurdle is a lot more prestigious than an Arkle which Straw Bear will be contesting anyway.
April 3, 2008 at 21:25 #155634huge faith shown by Fist…and well done
April 3, 2008 at 21:34 #155642Well it looks like the Racing Post have rated Binocular 156 for today, and the post race 12-1 for the champ hurdle is long gone on him now, with betfred making him as low as 6-1 jt fav with Katchit.

I backed Tazbar weeks ago for the world hurdle at 25/1 and there’s been money for him but he’s still 16/1. Cashmans however have him at 8/1 from 25/1. I realize it’s a gamble becuase the Revelys hate the meeting but Keith R has said he will run him if he thinks he’s good enough.
He amazed me out when he won over 2 miles and the fact the horse he beat was Whiteoak just emphasised how good he is. They had already said he needed 3 miles and the fact he could win that race over 2 miles in what truned out to be vg company. I had a small bet on Elusive dream today (Aftertimer) but I kept waiting for Whiteoak to go past..thought he was given a very bad ride and should just about have won……….but once again he’s franked the form….Celestial Halo isn’t my cup of tea but over a longer trip who knows…no one is likley to put him up until he runs over longer though…Cashman’s may lay you though they are generally quite good at laying big prices.
