Hello,
I had an Ante Post bet on AQALEEM some time ago, altho’ his form was let down last week, and Tregoning’s horses’ ae not exacty lighting up the racecourse, I am reasonably satisfied with that selection, but feel I must have more ammunition in the race.
Hence, I reviewed O’Brien’s "gallon" of entrants and targeted a jockey I rate highly, Smullen.
He rides MAHLER, a distance winner. Not sure he can handle today’s going, but appears to be an out and out stayer. May grab a place.
Did attract activity on Betfair yesterday, but around 50/1, not a bad each way punt.
Oh! why is Leander in the race???? Again the potential for a complete no hoper to interfere with the running of the most historic race in the world is allowed to happen by our authorities!
regards,
doyley
June 2, 2007 at 07:35 #63248Agreed, Mahler could well run into a place as he is very much an unexposed horse.
Take the favorite out and this doesn’t look a great race to these eyes; a field with quite a few that are , imho, a rung or two below the top level. I think that it is too early to be writing off Strategic Prince, though, as he was classy as a 2-Y-O and he could well give a good account of himself today. He’s another one that could sneak a place, imho.

June 2, 2007 at 08:51 #63250I’ve been very impressed with Lucarno who I saw win at Newmarket last week and have had a speculative ew on Acapulco also.
June 2, 2007 at 09:16 #63252Besides Authorised, who will win the Derby?
That would be a dead heat then
Did I not see MAHLER mentioned on the morning line as the Pricewise horse and the Daily Mirror value pick?
I also have LUCARNO as my derby pick Grey Desire. (great minds and idiots think alike.)
June 2, 2007 at 09:50 #63254I’ve had three small bets on different horses.
I finally backed Aqaleem, (to get back SP losses in lieu of an essential TRF Loan, though last nights drift was very worrying). I’ve also backed Regime and Petara Bay at 170, (The latter is considered to be a very, very good horse)
Really though, I sat down and decided I’d quite like it if Dettori won the race. Whatever you think of him as a jockey, he’s done wonders for racing.
June 2, 2007 at 11:21 #63257I wasnt that impressed by strategic prince at newmarket but leaving that aside, he would have a huge say.
Of the others, a long shot in yellowstone and good bet on Eagle mountain.

June 2, 2007 at 13:53 #63258Like some of you, I like Strategic Prince as well, especially with the ground drying out significantly now. 29 on Betfair is a nice price.
June 2, 2007 at 14:08 #63259Frankie looked as lost as ever around Epsom on Blue Ksar in the Diomed, so I think I’ll be reinvesting in John Gosden’s Lucarno.
I already have him at 66s (along with Eastern Anthem at 40s) and any 20s around now will be worth taking.
June 2, 2007 at 14:35 #63260I would take Authorized on, but I wouldn’t know which one to take it on with.
I can honestly say that I am totally unexcited about this year’s race. A very ordinary field.
June 2, 2007 at 15:05 #63261i want authorized to win but it’s got to beat a big field on a sweaty hot day with frankie’s nervy jinx and probably some tactical shenanigans from the ballydoyle octet – so i’ve laid it to give it that extra help :(
June 2, 2007 at 15:06 #63262Totally and utterly speculative, but my 3 value bets(!) are:
Strategic Prince
Anton Chekov
Petara Bay
Well, I’ve a nice(?) bet on Strategic Prince, and smaller amounts on the other 2.

June 2, 2007 at 15:12 #63263Regime or Eagle Mountain? Maybe Admiral.
June 2, 2007 at 15:17 #63264Salford Mill for me, as a speculative outsider
June 2, 2007 at 15:19 #63265I think Authorized will win, but have 6 (SIX) dangers on a not-so-short list which I have permed behind it in exotic bets:
Admiralofthefleet
Petara Bay
Regime
Salford Mill
Anton Checkhov
Strategic Prince
June 2, 2007 at 15:25 #63266LOL All that and he was a certainty after all!!
June 2, 2007 at 15:28 #63267Like I said, a very ordinary field. Authorized absolutely put them to the sword. A bunch of platers
Obviously the winner was far too good for them. I wanna see the winner do the same to good horses now, before I begin giving plaudits.
I’m happy for Frankie though. That put his ghost to bed for sure :)
