Well Grasshopper you’ll be laughing on the other side of your face when the flat season is in full swing. I live near the commonewealth pool Grasshopper although I fear I’ve told you too much already.
You deserve a medal if you actually live in Leith Grasshopper. I’ve had the misfortune of having to work at some of the Ladbrokes in Leith. I think the biggest bet i took was £5.00.
March 3, 2006 at 14:31 #98942In my youth I worked in the Ladbrokes in Cockburn street, completely dead shop apart from waiters and restaurant staff getting paid cash and squandering their wad in 15 exhilarating minutes. Never had the pleasure of working in the Leith shops though Elm Row was the HQ for the area and thats on the way down to Leith, just about where the smell begins.
I also worked in Tyncastle and Easter Road football grounds, nothing like being 18 years old and left to singlehandedly take all the bets in the away end when the old firm came to town. Animals !!!
How I miss the stench of stale alcohol breath and unwiped arse of 6000 Rangers/Celtic fans all simultaneously trying to have 20 notes on Pierre Van Hooijdonk/Brian Laudrup being first golascorer while trying not to vomit on each other. Of course they all want their bet on with 5 seconds to go until kick off and it’s my fault they cant all get on and inevitably big Pierre/Brian would put one away in the first 90 seconds just as the hardest man in Europe is handing me his coupon……….too late pal, did you fancy him ? Oh thats a shame. My, what a big knife that is and whats that, you’re best mates with some of Glasgows most notorious gangsters ! Pull the shutter down grab the takings and run like buggery around the stadium to hand over the loot to the bosses. I deseved danger money never mind £4.00 an hour and my bus fares !
March 3, 2006 at 15:56 #98943So you’ve been to my place have you Grassy ;) From the back of my house you could walk over the rolling fields of east lothian skirting old mining vllages and farms until you would eventually fall into the North Sea somewhere between Dunbar and Eyemouth. Not a Wimpy estate though, there are more than 3.5 inches between me and the next house !
Leithers dream of Wimpy estates………good burglary options for nicking their heroin money
March 3, 2006 at 16:24 #98944Ah yes, Gotham the heroin capital of Europe. If only we had someone with an Adam West as Batman avatar to clean up this town !

What are you looking at me for?
March 3, 2006 at 19:42 #98946East coaster .. :o
.. I thought you all liked each other ?
March 5, 2006 at 15:15 #98947Talking of Edinburgh, and I for one like the place a lot, try walking from the airport entrance to your departure gate without getting stopped by: –
a) the girls strategically placed at the bottom of the escalators
or
b) the old fella smack bang in the middle of the walkway by the bar.
or (and most likely)
c) Both.
Every week they see me – and still persist.<br>"No, I didn’t want one of your Credit Cards last Friday and believe it or not, nothing has changed in the interim".
My preferred approach, especially if I’ve got time to spare, i.e. stuck in an airport and already had far too much alchohol to gaurantee my boarding, is to use up as much of their time as possible, thereby denying them the chance of as genuine sale, and then after 10-15 mins or so just walk off uninterested.

I thought this meant a different sort of girl until I read the rest of the post!
