Why are connections always complaining about prizemoney etc., yet when Sandown put on a very decent 2 mile event with £6500 to the winner, there are only 3 entries ?
It seems that they prefer the scramble of more runners for less money around a gaff track in a novices handicap. Seems odd to me.

Beginners chase is for horses that have not won “maiden” if you like. There are some high rated horses in this and I guess the average maiden chaser won’t want to take on horses of Golden Doyen’s quality. It would be a waste of a run for most trainers and no trainer would want to send an average chaser out to be beaten a distance, what owner would enjoy that experience. Having said that Zoe Davidson ran a very distant 4th in a listed race last year and picked up black type with a very indifferent horse.
