Thats fair enough, but the chasing division wasnt chock full of stars during BOS’s prime. Only really Best Mate was genuinely as talented. So why not go for the GC as the real target?

Perhaps the prevailing ground at the gfestival and it may also have been decided early on that Cheltenham wasnt his course, but i still find it a bit odd.

clivex, I think Hourigan probably sussed that either Cheltenham wasn’t his track, or he wasn’t a great traveller, fairly early on – and therefore determined to concentrate on targets at home, rather than sacrifice them for a Cheltenham bid.

And it’s not as if he swerved the Gold Cup, is it? He simply was never able to show his best form there, for whatever reason.

iIthink Michael Hourigan summed it up when he said he thought the horse never forgot his bad fall in the Gold Cup. If that was the year when they lost Dorans Pride, the whole experience of coming to Cheltenham must have been a bad one…I’ve always felt that Our Vic never forgot that fall he had at Cheltenham either. If it put him off travelling then going to France wouldn’t have been an option either. Also, they always seemed to be treating the horse for various muscle problems, so perhaps travelling and being out of his usual routine didn’t help his muscles or joints..only a theory because my creaky joints don’t travel well!

He’s been a great servant over the years.

First time I saw him was a few months before the Gold Cup and I thought he was a very special horse. Many thought he would win the Gold Cup but as we know he was just that few pound short of what it takes.

He has done great and I still got a buzz out of seeing him finishing best of all behind Denman in the Lexus. I suppose it’s way too much to ask that he go out on a win this week but Iam sure he will run his usual good race……hope he gets a place as he will lift the roof of the place if he does.
