You’ll be backing him a year late. I backed him last year at 66/1 ante post and got payed out on his 5th place. I don’t think he’ll do that well next time.
November 24, 2010 at 10:32 #329543Age is always something a punter should take in to account in the price he/she is willing to take.
Anyone backing Denman for the Hennessey or Kauto Star for the King George, needs to take in to account there is a chance they are on the decline. Just a month (Denman) and few days (Kauto Star) away from their 11th birthday. Most 11 year olds are on the downgrade, and French breds (Kauto) usually mature and decline sooner than British and Irish breds.
In Hello Buds case he bucked the trend at least twice. Actually improving as an 11 year old to win the Scottish National (also won two other Nationals that season) and now at 12 winning the Becher. Had less racing than most of that age and still races with enthusiasm. Obviously might not be as good come April, but his record suggests Hello Bud has a better chance of running to form than most 13 year olds.
Value Is EverythingNovember 25, 2010 at 18:06 #329850If the race is on heavy going; anyone has a chance. Brave Highlander had the race won as a 13 year old in ’01 before being run out.
So if there are a small number left with 5 to jump; i’d give him a hell of a chance of winning.
