Racing post have announced that the BBC will be showing this! So i’m in the mood for some good discussion over it.
I have a feeling this years renewal is going to be as classy a Becher as we have seen.
So far i’ve heard these horses have been seeing this as a target…
Hello Bud
Irish Raptor
Tricky Trickster
MerigoSo already a great start and with State Of Play just backing out last year in place of the Hennessy i have a hunch he’ll be going for it this year with him finishing a good 3rd in the National, so this one would be perfect for him.
Now of course there are horses i am following that i’m dying to see in the race this year…
Black Apalachi
Ollie Magern
Companero
Keenans Future
Ellerslie George
Forest Pennant
Priests Leap
Auroras Encore
From Dawn To Dusk
Knowhere
Midnight Chase
Montero
Notre PereNow that’s a big list, but i always pick out 20 horses to follow every year and just coincidentally have lots of National hopes and thus Becher possibilities

I’ve heard that State Of Play is only having the 1 run this season. (NATIONAL).
November 4, 2010 at 18:10 #326211I’ll be hoping to see Fabalu running, and keeping my fingers crossed that he takes to it. Already bet him at silly prices for the National.
Midnight Chase is another horse I’ll be keeping an eye on, think he could come on leaps and bounds this season.
Peter, as Rummy already said, the word at the end of last season was that State Of Play would go straight for the National. Don’t know if they’ve had a change of heart though.
Looks as if some decent horses will be aimed at it!
November 4, 2010 at 18:29 #326213Midnight Chase is another horse I’ll be keeping an eye on, think he could come on leaps and bounds this season.
I first started following him when he was fourth behind Auroras Encore in the totepool chase in may and thought he could be very useful and he’s proven to be just that.
Last time i felt like this about a horse was when i told Darren Owen about a certain horse who if entered in the Becher would walk away with it. One month later Black Apalachi cantered home the easiest ever winner and i was left with a beautiful smug look on my face.
November 4, 2010 at 18:51 #326218Hope you’re right Peter, I’ve got a really good feeling about him, and think he could have a "very big race" in him!
November 4, 2010 at 22:36 #326253Anything Dessie Hughes declares for this race will be heavily betted on see as he had Black Apalachi & Vic Venturi in the past 2 years.
Also despite his weight in the national Black Apalachi ran extremely well.
November 14, 2010 at 12:26 #327897Seems obvious to say that if Midnight Chase does get the nod… well it would be special
Though i do wonder if they’d be wanting to run him after only 7 days? Sure Hello Bud did it last year, but he didn’t exactly canter away with it. Hell he was 5th out of 5 finishers.
November 14, 2010 at 18:22 #327985I hope they rest him to be honest Peter, was well chuffed with that performance yesterday, was a good day!
November 14, 2010 at 20:52 #327996id also heard state of play would be trained and just aim straight for the national
im considering midnight chase as a ntaional possibilty
i don’t know why but like forest pennant for the becher

Another pick from my list i’m so proud.
I’ve pegged him as a real National type and although he disappointed in the Badger Ales; he needed the run. He runs best after having a pipe opener. The Becher would be perfect for him.
November 14, 2010 at 22:48 #328009Should have recognised Lady Clarkes colours; he was certainly very impressive. What was the other horse they had after Lord Gyllene?
November 14, 2010 at 23:47 #328015Moe, Listen Timmy, Gun’N’Roses and Polar Red went over the National fences in those colours after Lord Gyllene, but the most well known was the brilliant hurdler Barton. Always remember him giving Lorcan Wyer his first winner at the Festival.
Other of note, Rolling Ball, and Lord Relic, but there’s been loads!
As for Midnight Chase, I’m on him at massive prices for Cheltenham in March, so still dreaming!
November 15, 2010 at 15:41 #328079Rather interesting set of entries. Notre Pere looks like a strong contender. Though Maljimar takes my eye as a key fancy.
Disappointed at some of the absences though; Companero and Keenans Future at teast.
November 15, 2010 at 19:22 #328114Abbeybraney for me – very good novice in Ireland a couple of seasons back and with a stable who’s horses always seem to love the big fences. Backed him for the 2010 National but sadly he didn’t run, think he’ll go well in this and in the big one in April
November 16, 2010 at 18:25 #328238I’ll be going eacher in the Becher, so to speak, and I like the look of I’moncloudnine. I think he’ll take to the big fences – never fallen – and he’s one of my horses to keep an eye on.

So don't run, just like the others always do
November 16, 2010 at 20:24 #328262Dream Alliance when fresh is very useful but he didnt seem to take to the fences in April
