Is Jenson Button not a certainty here then? 10/11 looks mighty tempting, no? I could get xmas out the way with one swift ‘click’ here….
December 13, 2009 at 20:10 #263720Incredible!
Ryan Giggs’s odds have more than halved from 3/1 into 11/8 in the space of 15 minutes!
EDIT: Now 11/10!
December 13, 2009 at 20:25 #263722BBC Managed approx 45 seconds brief mention of Kauto, Mon Mome Nice piece on sea the Stars by Robert Winston & then onto boxing !!!!
December 13, 2009 at 20:57 #263731spotted that twit statto in the crowd, was he the only person there involved [and i use the word involved lightly] in racing.

I suppose the 45 seconds is an improvement on the 30 seconds last year.
Thought the Robert Winston thing was a disgrace, would have preferred the time to be used for a decent appraisal, putting his achievement into some sort of perspective, of the horse by either Clare Balding or Jim McGrath – not some doctor who, to the best of my knowledge, has no involvement in racing or veterinary knowledge.
But to me it just underlines the contempt the BBC have for racing.
Not helped when Cornelius Lysaght goes on record and says, and I quote, [i:212dm6y1]“Racing industry loves to knock this prog but decent coverage length.”[/color:212dm6y1][/i:212dm6y1]
If the BBC Radio racing correspondent considers the coverage “decent” then there is no hope.

Venetia Williams and Mark Johnston were also there – I’m sure a few others as well.
December 14, 2009 at 13:29 #263818A gracious speech by a worthy winner (AP excepted). Wish Liverpool had a few more like him.
December 14, 2009 at 13:57 #263820I don’t know how worthy Giggs was really, but are they ever?
What I do know is his ‘victory’ was no doubt part of betting sting organised my Man Utd fans – and good luck to them.
Backed in from 200/1 in the months leading up to the event and then falls from something like 6’s to 4/7 in the space of an hour on the night? I got on a 2’s but the goose had flown.
I’ve always liked Giggs as a person though. An admirable bloke who carries himself impeccably. He’ll make for a great ambassador for a piss poor club.
December 14, 2009 at 14:03 #263821Giggs is a nice bloke and so on, but its a daft choice…
Hes a fine player (not as great as some would suggest…) having adecent season in a good side. But tahts hardly earthshattering stuff
I sense that it was a bandwagon winner with those that depise F1 (rightly so) beating off the BBC’s prfered choice (and dont they just ram home F1 these days)
Which audience is the BBC aiming for with its obsession with f1 anyway? Most followers of the "sport" would struggle to turn a TV or Radio on… without help
Still i expct they were open mouthed when Giggs won. They always are
December 14, 2009 at 15:05 #263827hmm…coincidentally these ads with Giggs suddenly sprouted up all over HK in early Nov:

Did you think so? Thought his speech was poor, ill prepared, on a par with Zara Phillips effort.
Don’t know why that would be the case when it was clear he was in the top 3 for some time, surely his agent should have pointed this out to him if he didn’t realise himself.
Don’t think he was a particularly worthy winner but that’s neither here nor there.December 14, 2009 at 16:23 #263836Does anyone really think the BBC, that pre-eminent supporter of racing, would allow a jockey to be in the final ten of Sports Personality?
Yes!…if they from the Royal Family
December 14, 2009 at 20:15 #263863Wonder if more then about 20 people saw the programme anyway? Surely most of the masses were watching the ZZZZ Factor (sorry X Factor!)
Only found out the result by reading this thread – shows how much I cared!
December 14, 2009 at 20:19 #263864Oh come on! It’s always been popular. Not everyone gives a monkey’s doodah about X Factor, especially the men. I wouldn’t miss it for the World and I know at work, there was just as much conversation about this event as about X Factor.
I was gobsmacked Giggs won.
