Back them both Nick. I might just hit 10 runners and qualify. Darkness was my only selection since I posted up the system. So its touch and go whether I make it!

February 6, 2005 at 13:41 #58346Terrific bit of fun this. I was certain I wouldn’t get 10 qualifiers, but with 2 today I could be OK.
Just need them to win now – come on you bandits!

February 6, 2005 at 15:49 #58348Nick
in your totals you have barry dennis and cormack as both – 100 %
barry has had 5 bets
cormack 10 bets
no winners for both so should that read
barry – 500 %
cormack – 1000%
im new to this and interested how punters display the profit and loss as phone tipsters seem to dress up the results to suit

February 6, 2005 at 17:01 #58349Hi Lineform
The -100% figure was for profit on turnover which was correct for both Barry and Cormack15 as they’d both lost 100% of their money yesterday. Profit measured against stake (not total turnover) would have given your -500% and -1000% figures.
February 6, 2005 at 17:23 #58350Lineform,
The percentages given relate to the Return On Investment for each person’s system.
Each selection is backed to 1 point (Win) level stakes. If you the divide total profit (or loss) by the number of selections made (and, in this case, the total stake) you arrive at the percentages given.
So, if you had made 6 selections, with 1 winner at 6/1 and 5 losers…..
6 selections to 1 point stake = 6 points
Profit = (1 X 6) – 5 = +1 point
Your ROI is then…..
(profit/total stake) * 100 = (1/6) * 100 = 16.67%
I’d honestly take little notice of most tipsters percentages etc. Some of course are honest, but a majority massage them to suit themselves.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve received a tipster’s leaflet in the post, worked out all the percentages, average prices etc. from the information they give about their bets and they turn out to be nothing like what they claim. They expect everyone to take what they read as gospel and feel they can make it up as they go along because of this.

February 6, 2005 at 18:13 #58351thanks LGR for that
that is how i would work things out , its just how the tables is set out that confused me as somene with 10 loses gets – 100% as does some one with 1 loser
maybe it should be turnover on total stakes for the the table for interest only
lineform
February 6, 2005 at 18:33 #58352All it is looking at, is how much people have made (or lost) in comparison to how much they have ‘put down.’ It makes sense then that, if you back 10 horses and they all lose, you’ve lost 100% of your stake i.e. all of it.
I think the confusion comes in when you equate 1 point (i.e. the stake per qualifier in the case of this competition) to 100% and then multiply that by the number of losers.
That’s kind of looking at things from the perspective of an individual bet, rather than the system’s performance as a whole.
February 6, 2005 at 19:49 #58353At the end of day two, with Aston assumed to be referring to the highest RPR…
(Entrant > wins/selections > profit/loss > %ROI)
Nick Hatton 0/2 -£2.00 -100.00%
Aston 2/7 +£2.00 +28.57%
Sal 2/29 -£12.50 -40.32%
Grasshopper 0/4 -£4.00 -100.00%
(Monkey 0/0 with a non-runner today)
Aston’s selections are assumed to have been as follows…
Saturday
Sandown 2:10 – ISMENE (lost)
Wetherby 3:40 – MIDDLETHORPE (lost)
Sandown 1:40 – GREAT TRAVEL (lost)
Sandown 4:00 – MERCATO (lost)
Sunday
Hereford 3:50 – PEWTER LIGHT (won @ 9/2)
Musselburgh 2:30 – COUNT FOSCO (won @ 5/2)
Musselburgh 3:30 – BODFARI SIGNET (placed @ 15/2)

February 6, 2005 at 20:11 #58354Hi lgr
i take your point i see what you mean
i am a novice trying to find the best ways its good to be able to ask people
i think the way i like to show profits for the future will be level stake profits to one point level stakes i.e 100 bets 30 winners at average price of say 3/1 = strike rate of 30% for LSP of 120%
lineform
February 6, 2005 at 21:14 #58355The fact is lineform, you can use all sorts of methodology in the ways you show/keep track of your profits (or losses). As long as you know what you’re looking at and it is made clear to othres what the figures mean, there is no problem whatsoever in how you do it.
For me though, the ROI process is simple, is known by most people and is the most ‘impressionable,’ way to show your results.
