Anyone know anything about Door Boy of Howard Johnson’s and whether he is going to be aimed at this? He ran a decent race behind Diamond Harry on his second start over hurdles at Cheltenham, finishing 7 lengths behind (albeit Harry won as he liked) before running well in the same race as Wendle at Ascot (2m likely to be far too short for him and it was slowly run affair).
He’s entered at Newcastle tomorrow in a race he should win (2m4f), and wondered whether his long term aim was the Ballymore? Better ground likely to be in his favour then and with proof that he runs well at Cheltenham already in the bag, I wondered about having a little play on him at 250 on bf.
Anyone?
January 27, 2009 at 21:40 #206769I can’t check from here (At work) but the entries are early closing and are available on the RP website – If he is on BF though I would imagine he is entered.
January 28, 2009 at 06:44 #206863I’m still trying to figure out why Diamond Harry is 7/2 for this? He hasn’t beaten a decent horse, he hasn’t run a fast time and he’s not consistently fluent over his hurdles. Classic jockey hype horse imo.
January 28, 2009 at 14:29 #206871I think Bensalem will turn out to be a very decent horse but I agree he is too short. The Irish form looks stronger at this stage but I do believe there is more to come from Harry.
January 28, 2009 at 16:25 #206881I would be on Karabak at this time ,and the jock is confident ,but if Hurricane Fly runs in this ,or wherever he runs,I will be on him.Decision made after the Deloitte Touche I believe.
January 29, 2009 at 03:54 #206968I think I might be glad that the market is suspended following Door Boy’s defeat today. When are the entries for this going to be released so I can claim 500/1!?!?
Agree with Karabak – King keeps on unearthing some gems in the novice hurdling sphere – very impressive at Ascot.
January 30, 2009 at 07:00 #207141Pandorama …straight to the Ballymore, best all round…best for the horse and best for my nerves.
February 7, 2009 at 00:25 #208558If you fancy Karabak do you not give Knockara Beau an outside chance on their Aintree bumper form?
February 15, 2009 at 00:16 #210260For me Karabak is the banker of the Festival – his run in the qualifier at Ascot last month is the most impressive novices’ performance I have seen this season.
I had my first "serious" bet of the year on him within minutes of him crossing the line at Ascot and I am very, very happy wth the 12/1 I was able to get.

I think Cape Tribulation’s demolition of Junior at Doncaster pushes it close, Paul, but Karabak certainly was impressive. I’m just annoyed I backed him for the Supreme as well – I could have doubled my winnings
March 8, 2009 at 14:02 #214312Mad Max seems to be a big price judged on what he did to Karabak. Could have pulled some way clear if push came to shove and yet he’s double the price? Its fair enough to think Karabak has improved a graet deal since but if Mad Max has come on at all for that race, the outcome could very well be the same.

Mad Max was hardly impressive in beating Pause And Clause at Newbury though, was he? Emma Lavelle’s horse is decent enough, but he’s certainly not on a par with Karabak.
He’s another one waiting to go chasing and I don’t know how keen I would be to back a horse having their first run following a breathing operation at the Festival.
March 8, 2009 at 20:00 #214375Depends what you think of Pause and Clause I suppose. I personally think it’s solid form and have a little e/w interest in the coral cup. He’s gone on to beat a 130 rated horse by an easy 8 lengths since and Mad Max will appreciate better ground if it drys out.
Going back to the the race with Karabak, Mad Max seemed to have held him at bay with relative ease. I’d rather be on something at a better price than Karabak. With high class novice hurdlers is abundance this year, a 3/1 favourite for this race isn’t appealing to me at all.
March 8, 2009 at 22:05 #214399Looks the best novice race of the festival in my opinion.
My tuppence worth on the principles – Karabak looks short enough in such a good race, and could be exposed with Mad Max anyway. The Mullins horse could be anything, but needs plenty of cut. Diamond Harry looks very quirky, but i’ve seen these types improve and look more straightforward in larger fields going a better clip.
Im summary – i would have to say Mad Max is certainly a chaser in waiting, but looks the value to me if forced to punt, would think this one is a cracking one to watch in all honesty. Looks better than the Supreme for the 1st time in many years.
March 9, 2009 at 22:36 #214650I like the look of Mikael D’Haguenet. I might have a little something on that !

See you on Betfair, Graeme – I’m laying the nuts off it.
March 10, 2009 at 00:39 #214672What are you laying it at ?
