I’ve already bet Dr Eggman at 40-1 as mentioned for The Albert Bartlett, but I can’t completely rule him out for this, so a cover bet it is at 25-1

Satisfactory. Ruby Walsh said he looked like he would improve a lot for the run as well.

He was sloppy with his jumping but that was only coz there was little pace. This looks like his distance I would say in a championship race.

    He has a serious engine

Wonder what price the bookies would give me for the 2024 brown advisory

I can’t see him winning a Ballymore – loads of stamina on the dams side and he’s by Mahler and they just don’t progress into top class hurdlers – a few decent chasers like Ms Parfois and OK Corral but I think his best chance at the festival would be the Albert Bartlett

American Mike was the best bumper horse mahler has ever produced

Looks to have the potential to be the best horse he’s produced going forward

He’s definitely not a plodder and looks to have loads of talent

Has an excellent chance whether he runs in the ballymore or bartlett. I feel like something will have to go a little wrong for him to end up in the bartlett or for Gordon to unearth another ballymore horse

Or of course for facile vega to turn up in the ballymore, can’t imagine Gordon would be keen to take him on

Happy with that from Kalanisi Star with a fair Mullins horse in second and 18 lengths back to the third. Crying for a step up in trip and McKiernan alluded to that post/race. Whether he goes up to intermediate or 3 miles remains to be seen – going to have another little saver on the Ballymore just in case. 33s still out there which is absolutely fair. Form of his ptp and bumper have received numerous boosts.

Been waiting a year for Grangeclare West to make an appearance and he’s out today. The stable tour said staying hurdler and he’s shorter for the AB but he did mention Supreme at the start of last year. That may have been code at the time for “Sir Gerhard is going Ballymore” but still, I was tempted enough to take the 25s for the Ballymore this time around.

And just for fun I’ve added a Mullins Trip Bingo Double with Minella Cocooner for the Turners. I’m not very good at Mullins trip bingo but I keep trying :-)

Added Grangeclare West 12-1 for now. Could go either way re distance.

American Mike either completely emptied there or has picked up some kind of injury

Was barely moving crossing the line

Don’t know what happened to American Mike there, wandering all over the place on the run in.

Yes you would think wind problem/bled/tied up/injured or something. He stopped too quickly for it to be just half a mile too short, even though it probably is half a mile too short. He and the Meade horse might have taken each other on a bit but the pace did seem to steady after the first couple of furlongs, it didn’t look suicidal.

The winning time was 4 seconds faster than the maiden (albeit the Monksfield horses carried the guts of a stone less than the maidens and were race fit).

Gordon Elliott on American Mike’s performance at Navan:

️ “He’s not right and isn’t himself. He didn’t run his race and was blowing very hard. We’ll get him checked out at home.”

Only just caught the replay. A worrying performance by American Mike. He would have only been third if the faller at the last had stayed on his feet.

He deserves another chance but there cannot be much confidence behind him now.

That Mullins one yesturday looked a bit of a freak, Grangeclare West I think it was called, no idea which race will be its target though.
