I have not seen the race. The horse’s form was clearly moderate, hence his SP of 50/1.
However, there were two more runners priced at 50/1, one at 66/1 and another with an SP of 100/1. Should these horses not have been allowed to run either? The bookmakers thought two of them had even less chance.
Cork, it’s a difference between being not to able win a race and not able to compete at all.
Peter Maher’s horses for instance are always perfectly prepared for this kind of race, no matter what their prices are. He does very well in these type of races for local farmers, I think.
And a price of 50/1 could have easily been 250/1 or 500/1 on the exchanges. We all know that Irish bookmakers rarely make any gifts towards the punters.
I think you need some experience in order to jump Ruby’s Double. That’s not just a plain fence.
Don’t think that Bonny Dazzler ha too much either having finished 100 lengths behind. But, Michel’s Pick for instance, another 50/1 shot, had completed twice over the Punchestown banks and once over the GN fences. Huge difference between him and the deceased four-race maiden and yet the same price.
Sickening sight, not a fan of these cross country races. The big drops and the grass banks can’t do their legs much good.
I remember that JP horse that did a huge flip going down one of the drops either last year or year before at Punchestown and breaking it’s back, Horrendous.
