as a glutton for punishment i drove 367 miles up to ayr on saturday to see the scottish national.
im sad to report that ayr has become the chepstow of the north ie:ruined by managment.
as a holder of a tatts ticket i found large parts of the course out of bounds, far more than my last visit 7 years ago.
half of the paddock viewing was members only and the walkway from the paddock area to the tatts stand that used to be in front the members area has now gone so the only way through was trying to plough your way through the indoor bar area so it had to be a choice between paddock viewing and missing the race or watching the racing and missing the paddock.
i complained to the management and their hot tip was to leave the course at the exit by the be friendly bar, walk up the road and come back into the course at the next entrance!
to top it all off the public address system was so poor you couldnt hear it in a lot of the areas.
the only saving grace was the rooftop terrace on the tatts stand where i spent the afternoon and the free racecards.
i can safely say i will never visit ayr again!April 19, 2010 at 18:52 #291221runandskip
You really should have asked me before travelling! I’m not inpressed with the place and I’m happy to watch the Scottish National meeting on the ‘net. The course executive has an over-inflated opinion of their track.

April 19, 2010 at 19:25 #291225Hi Everyone,
As a newby to the forum I would just like to say as a regular racegoer/owner in Scotland NH only, that Ayr is by far the least appealing track to visit for anyone considering a trip to Scotland for racing.
I appreciate I am biased to the jumpers but I would strongly recommend visits to Kelso,Perth, and Hamilton(flat only)
