We all (I think) have one horse that we love watching in any given year’s racing. For me Dubai Millenium was one. Shergar was another. And Triptych.<br>In NH circles, watching Dessie was an event in itself. I could name many.
And there are horses that we have a kind of attachment to.
It’s different altogether to watching a class act at work. Gloria Victis was one I was thoroughly attached to. Bacchanal was another. I loved watching this horse at work and Saturday was a sad, sad day for me. ‘Gloria’ coming to grief brought a tear to my eye. And so to did Bachannal. There aren’t many gee gees that make an impact like that on me.
RIP Bachannal. Good ol’ boy :(
I’ll bet tha connections are totally gutted. I have no problems with the way the horse was campaigned. He was treat with respect and was lightly raced for one as talanted. The horse was without a doubt a flagship for the stable and, I would guess, was treat as such. If you have a star such as Bachannal, you owe it to the horse to give him the chance to shine with the greats of the game. It’s what he did best. I don’t blame anyone for going for the Gold Cup. With a horse that talanted, you have to look at that option. It just went wrong on the day.
I am of the opinion that the same accident could have happenned in a hurdle race, or even a flat race, and no-one is at blame. Just one of those things …
