    From PA:

t was a performance that had British Horseracing Board jumps handicapper Phil Smith raving and he now puts Azertyuiop ahead of triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate as the best chaser in training in Britain.<br>"You can crab as much as you like about how poorly some of the others in the race performed today, but I view Seebald as a very good yardstick to judge Azertyuiop by," he said.<br>"Best Mate is on 175, but after today’s performance Azertyuiop will go higher, to a rating in the high 170s.<br>"After all, if you took him out, Seebald would be getting put up. And to give that horse 18lb was a very special performance."

    <br>Nore,

My answer would be age – no 10-y-old has ever won the Tingle Creek since it became a non handicap in 1994.

Five winners have been 7-y-olds like Azertyuiop.

If any horse is going to break the mould, Moscow Flyer has the best prospects, as his win last year was the first by a 9-y-old.

But you can’t stop the effects of time and it’s impossible to avoid the truth that horses of his age lose the cutting edge of speed that wins top class 2M chases.

To go back a little further, Desert Orchid won this under 12st as a 9-y-old when it was a handicap. The following year, he couldn’t repeat the feat.

I’ve seen it before with all of the top 2m chasers that when they get to the age of 10+ they are always vunerable to a young improving chaser.

As alot of other people have said time is not on Moscow Flyer’s side.

<br>Fair enough, but the Tingle Creek is on in a few weeks – its unlikely MF will have to be destroyed due to arthritis in the meantime! He was still winning Grade 1 races when last seen little over six months ago and surely he deserves the benefit of the doubt.<br>[br]What age was Badsworth Boy when he won his last Champion Chase by a distance?

Bit late to this and couldnt get to see the race:angry:

But Azery is simply a beautiful chaser and its worth remebering atht connections belive he needs some "getting ready"

I belive that Moscow Flyer could perhaps move up to a crack at the King George. Love to see him win that, but at 10 knocking 11, I have to fancy Azery to go past him

One or two lovely chasers coming through at the moment. That french four year old looks awesome too

I have been a huge fan of Azerty throughout his career, and the win on his chasing debut still sticks vividly in my memory. He gets stronger and faster every year, and to suggest Well Chief as a threat to him is an insult. I mean for Christ’s sake, he gave Isio 19 pounds and only got beat a 1/4 of a length. He’s been campaigned aggresively, and hasn’t ducked any challenges, like Best Mate’s connections. He is the ultimate 2m chaser, speed to burn, and stamina to match. He wasn’t nearly fit enough in the Tingle Creek last year, and pulled like a train, and got beat by Moscow Flyer, who is hardly a weak Champion Chase winner! Of course, Azerty will probably never have the chance again to take on a fully fit Moscow Flyer, when he’s fit too, and hand him a beating, but one things for sure, if Arkle was a 2 mile chaser, his name would be Azertyuiop.

Times mean very little in jumps racing , but if that’s a line for argument :

    Edredon Bleu -Two miles – Cheltenham – Good – 3m 44.70

Maybe he’s the one they’ve all got to beat ?!

the times used are all taken from the year 2003 not 2000

Well Chied didn’t run over 2m at Cheltenham in 2003 , but whenever the results were recorded doesn’t matter. Recorded , official conditions were the same , thus fitting your argument. Well Chief was also carrying 5 lb less than Azertyuiop and Moscow Flyer ( although he was younger ).

But I don’t pay much attention to times in jumps racing , they are far less influential than on the flat.

I have been a big Azertyuiop fan for a long, long time, but feel that in Moscow Flyer he is a horse that we have never got to the bottom of over fences.  We did not see the best of him when he won the 2003 Champion Chase and I think that he can still improve further on what he has shown to date.  Although on what they have shown on the track, I have an inkling that Moscow Flyer could pull something out of the fire and beat Azertyuiop in the Tingle Creek whilst still proving vulnerable to him at Cheltenham.  Whatever else is discussed is immaterial, these two are a stone ahead of anything else over two miles this season.

Make sure he pays on, Joe! And while you’re at it, puff up your margin a bit ~ you’ll give bookies a bad name!
