The problems Ayr had with their drainage problems producing a false patch of ground, is the problem still there when it comes down to watering, the official going was given as good to firm, I had it at +0.59s/f (firmx), “back in the day” this would have been referred to as hard.

The only other racecourse that produces fast going like this is Bath, where they have no watering system.

    Going allowance table:
    Firm +0.50s/f
    Good to Firm +0.25s/f
    Good 0.00s/f
    Good to soft -0.25s/f
    Soft -0.50s/f
    Soft to Heavy -0.75s/f
    Heavy -1.00s/f

    Mike.
