With the appointment of Paul Bittar as Chief Exec can we expect to see any changes in policy at BHA Towers?
Over to you Glenn and Ricky…
September 13, 2011 at 16:31 #370860Tuffers , definitely, if allowed ….., this guy was responsible for revenue generation in the Victoria racing club , he will know what to do ….it should be fun , watching the remaining bookies pack their bags for the offshore fun and games
Essentially he has inherited a poisoned chalice , unless they ban the bookies and exchanges , leaving a bookie owned Tote ….all impossible …its hard to see how they can manage it
For some his appointment will be a bitter pill to swallow ….but a good hire it would seem …I say lets see how he goes ,,,lets hope his first day will see the sacking of Mr Roy ……with his pockets bulging from the pay off

September 13, 2011 at 18:30 #370863I see the BHA have announced a further delay to the publication of next year’s fixture list. It wouldn’t come as any surprise to me if there is a much more significant reduction in fixtures then has been suggested so far. Reference was made in the BHA’s press release to the drop in racehorse numbers. I wonder whether Silvoir is able to share with us the data the BHA has on the likely percentage decline in horses in training next year?
September 13, 2011 at 23:31 #370901We’ve had to endure much, you and I, but soon there will be order again. A new age. Aquinas spoke of the mythical city on the hill, soon that city will be real and punters will be crowned its kings. Or, better than kings… Gods!

Deus Ex – that takes me back
September 14, 2011 at 10:11 #370920People say that you can’t get value any more, but the 8/11 I took about ‘Paul’ being next Rabble head honcho was an amazing rick.
Never a moment’s doubt. Who the hell took the even money ‘any other name’?

No problem. Relevant data below, apologies if formatting is lost/confusing cutting from a table to the forum.
Weatherbys undertook detailed analysis based on mid/long term horse in training trends – reduction of horses in training in 2012 could fall further by as much as 10.7%. That is arguably a worst case scenario, with a best case scenario likely to be the same as this year, ie 3.2% drop.

That is quite possible, though on an interpretation of those figures alone the reduced need for 3YO races might start in 2012. Much would depend on how the number of 2yos in training this year compared to last and the year before. I don’t have those figures to hand.
September 14, 2011 at 16:08 #370934Rather than reduce the number of races for 3-y-os only, a better solution would be to replace them with 3-y-o+ races. You might hear the same rubbish from those uninformed trainers that tell you three year olds are too immature to take on their elders, but when Mark Johnston is mopping up everything at 1m+ from April onwards instead of at 1 1/4m+ from July onwards hopefully they’ll be convinced it isn’t the case.

Time to buy a 2yo to run in some of those races next year

Too late. The time to have bought him was at the breeze ups in the spring and have him qualified for a mark by now!
