Where is Clivex? He hasn’t mentioned deep fried mars bars yet, but I’m sure he will any minute.
January 27, 2009 at 23:55 #206799Federer turns in a faultless display in dispatching Del Potro in ruthless fashion. 6-3, 6-0, 6-0. He was lucky to get the 3. I’ve never seen a player look so demoralized and helpless.
My Nadal bet’s not looking so great after all!…It was a joy to behold though, and as much as I’d like to see Nadal win for obvious reasons, I couldn’t possibly hold it against Federer should he prevail. Nobody else is capable of that level of tennis. The two drop-volleyed cross court winners off vicious Del Potro forehands in the final set were from another world.

Well done Rafa
February 1, 2009 at 18:58 #207547I thought I’d be clever and lay Rafa to get my stake back when Federers odds went to 11/10 at break point in the first very first game

Still a good result though, and helped me enjoy what was a brilliant final that little bit more!
Where does Roger go now? He were the favorite in so many ways, yet still managed to get simply overwhelmed once more….I felt for him.
February 1, 2009 at 19:16 #207549Another epic match by the sound of things and I’m delighted for Nadal to prove his superiority once again against such a great opponent, – I didn’t think they could live up to what they achieved at Wimbledon.
Only caught a glimpse of it as I can’t watch this arena at Melbourne, – like watching 2 great champions around Suthell.
Ashamed a little to say it, but the women players are not worth what they are paid. This is one example where I do not believe in equal pay.
February 1, 2009 at 23:00 #207584Just caught it on the news; I do wish they would stop interviewing people that had just lost and just let them crawl away and hide somewhere.

Quite literally, I’m sure it’s all he wanted to do and it’s excruciating to watch..February 1, 2009 at 23:48 #207599Mentally, Nadal has got Federer by the short and curlies – or the two hemispheres, if you so prefer.
It is no coincidence that Nadal has now defeated Federer in five grand slam finals. The Spaniard just refuses to accept defeat. He has an extraordinary will to win and his stamina and fitness levels are incredible.
Federer will now have his work cut out to emulate Pete Sampras’ 14 Grand Slam titles. Wimbledon ’09 could be his last chance. If only Rafael Nadal wasn’t around to spoil things for him.

To be fair Federer was playing some sublime tennis up until the fifth set, but after that he went to pieces. Nadal maintained his own supreme level form to the very last point and simply overpowered him.
Whatever the shift in power, some of the play today was nothing short of sensational. It’s not often that the two best players in the world take part in such stunningly exciting rallies, but today was a truly exhilerating exception. And the winners that ended those rallies were…well…out of this world (a couple of Nadal’s in the fourth set expecially).
The profit came (a close) second to the event. Superb.
