The Stable Stars competition, which is run by Attheraces, is up and running again this year. The competition
starts on Friday 11 November 2016, and entries have to be in by 9pm on Thursday 10th November to qualify for
the first week. You can enter the competition at any time, although obviously the earlier the better as there
are points to be won.I put up a thread last year, and gave reminders when your weekly transfers had to be in by, and a heads up
when bonus races were coming up and how the league was doing. I’m happy to do that again this year and hope
that many in here might join in. I have created a private league TRF and the League Pin is 10274. The competition is free to enter, you can only enter one stable, and there are prizes, including £8000 to the overall winner and others for monthly leaders too. I have been in touch with ATR a couple
of times, and they have corrected some points. I would also point out that you can enter a Stable and tinker
with it as many changes as you like, prior to the cut off point for the 1st week, this is not mentioned in the
info and rules on the website until you enter a stable. It took a bit of getting used to last year so anyone new
to the competition, who wants to ask any questions please fire ahead. I think it might be useful if I post a copy
of the rules. Good luck
The competition can be entered at http://www.stable-stars.com
Stable Stars Game – Start to finish
Competition period: Friday, 11th November 2016 to Saturday 29th April 2017.
Points Scoring begins: First race on Friday 11th November, 2016.
Entries Open – Thursday, 20th October 2016
Entries Close – 9pm on 21st April, 2017.Setting up your Stable
Players must create their own team/stable name upon submitting an entry.
A stable will comprise of 10 horses, 2 Elite Selections and 8 Main Selections and one horse will have to be selected as the “Stable Star”.
Stables set up after 9pm, Thursday, 10th November, will not be eligible to win points in the first Game week, which runs from Friday 11/11/16 to Friday 18/11/16.
Once the game has begun (11/11/16), 10-horse stables can only be created between 12.01am Monday and 9pm Friday each week.
Stables set up in a defined “Game Week” will only be eligible to start winning points in the following “Game Week”. Each “Game Week” runs from 12am Saturday to 11.59pm Friday (except Game Week 1, which runs from Friday 11/11/16 to Friday 18/11/16), e.g. a stable set up on Tuesday, 15th November, can only start winning points from the following Saturday, 19/11/16 (for Game Week 2 onwards).
Stable Star
Players must nominate one horse to be their “Stable Star” each week. A horse must be selected as “stable star” upon submitting entry, which can be changed each week (if not changed, then that same horse remains the “Stable Star”).
Each player’s Stable Star scores double points for winning a race in that week (or finishing 2nd or 3rd in a bonus race).
Calculating scoresHorses winning National Hunt races under the Rules of Racing (hurdles, chases and NH flat races) in Great Britain or Ireland will receive a number of points for each win. The number of points gained for each win is determined by the total amount of prize money the winning horse receives (as listed below):
Non-Bonus Races
Race value Points
Race worth £30,000/€33,500 or higher to winner 30
Race worth £25,000 to £29,999 (€28,000 to €33,499) to winner 25
Race worth £20,000 to £24,999 (€22,500 to €27,999) to winner 20
Race worth £15,000 to £19,999 (€17,000 to €22,499) to winner 15
Race worth £10,000 to £14,999 (€11,500 to €16,999) to winner 12
Race worth less than £10,000/€11,499 to winner 10
In the event of a dead-heat, points will be divided by the number of horses dead-heating with fractions rounded down. No points for a walkover. The official result on the day will be used for the calculation of points with any subsequent disqualifications disregarded.
Stable Star
A player’s Stable Star scores double points for winning a race in that week.
So if a player’s Stable Star, for example, was to win two races worth less than £10K that week (10pt score for winning each race), that player would receive 40pts instead of 20pts for those 2 wins.
Bonus Races
There will be a list of bonus races throughout the NH season, in which points can be earned for selecting the 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Players gain 50pts for selecting the winner of a bonus race, 25pts for second and 15pts for third. All horse that score points in bonus races will count as winners on the leaderboard. Click here to view the list of Bonus Races.
In the event of a dead-heat, points will be divided by the number of horses dead-heating with fractions rounded down. No points for a walkover. The official result on the day will be used for the calculation of points with any subsequent disqualifications disregarded.
PrizesThere is a £8,000 cash top prize for the player who finishes the Stable Stars Game on the highest points total. There will be also be prizes for the 2nd to 10th places in the Overall Game, the top points scorer in the months of December, January, February, March & April, details of which can be found on the Prizes Page – Click here to view all prizes on offer.
TransfersPlayers are permitted one transfer from the Main Selections List each Game Week, transfer window is open from 12.01am Monday to 9pm on Friday (please note that a transfer only affects your stable for the following game week and does not take immediate effect).
Players are permitted one Elite transfer each calendar month. The month in which the transfer is deemed to have been made is determined by the date of the Saturday on which the horse is added to the stable. The transfer is deemed to be made in the month in which that specific Saturday falls.
e.g. if a player decides to make an Elite Transfer on Monday, 28th November, the Elite Selection will be transferred into his/her stable on Saturday, 3th December, so this will count as that player’s one Elite Transfer for December.
Private leaguesAll players can set up their own private league by clicking here, and can invite friends, family & colleagues to compete against them in the Stable Stars Game. All players can also join another players private league. To join a private league you will need the league administrator to send you the exact name of the league and the individual four digit code, you can then join via the Private League’s page on Stable Stables.
At The Races is not responsible for any prizes offered by individuals operating Private/Mini Leagues through stable-stars.com.
Additional HorsesAs the season progresses additional horses may be added to the game. You will be able to transfer these horses into your stable. Check the “Recently Added” tab on the transfer page, to see latest horses added to the Main Selections List.
Abandoned meetingsIn the event that any fixture involving a horse you have selected is cancelled or postponed to fall outside the Game time period (11/11/16 to 29/04/17) this selection will not score any points.
Injuries/Retirements/BereavementsIf one of your stable selections is reported to be out for the season, you will be able to transfer the affected horse out of your stable as per the normal Stable Stars transfer policy.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 28, 2016 at 19:57 #1269075Great stuff Jac and Bobby, I only clocked it last year a few days before the off and we still
had 20 in the league. Same again would be great, but maybe that there’s more time this year,
we might get a few more. The more the merry
October 31, 2016 at 15:00 #1269738I think I’m in the TRF team Graham. Private League TRF is down by my name but my Stable Name
is not showing yet. Maybe when we start to get more players and the scoring begins it will kick in.Just thought I would mention this in case anyone else has the same problem.
This year my stable is fighting under the name of LAGERTHA’S ARMY
So you’ll probably guess Im a fan of the Vikings Series currently screening on Amazon
sad but true
Best of luck to the TRF League this year…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 31, 2016 at 15:45 #1269799Hi BigG
I’m going to give it a miss, hope you don’t mind.
So much to keep up with all the comps plus supersix and fantasy teams.
I will be keeping my eye on updates and wish you all well.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
October 31, 2016 at 17:58 #1269817Hi Jac, I noticed that on clicking on the private league (TRF) that I registered, it doesn’t
take you into the same room format as last year. When I click on the link for the league, it
only shows myself at this point, I think they were still tinkering with the set up when I
emailed them about a couple of things, which they then rectified. I’m hoping it’s sorted
out in the next couple of days, if not I will get back in touch with them.Nathan, that’s no problem. I know you are involved in running several competitions and sometimes
enough is enough. Good luck, and hopefully one of our guys can waltz off with the 8 grand
November 1, 2016 at 12:21 #1269947Just a reminder for anyone considering having a go, 9 days left to enter a stable to
compete in the first week. Don’t worry about not putting your stable in until the
last day in case any horse is out for the season, or just that you might have a change
of heart…..you can change your stable as many times as you like prior to the cut off
point of 9pm Thursday 10/11/16. It would be great to have a good sized league
November 1, 2016 at 16:18 #1269963I’ve put a team in BigG
Could’nt let you down mate now could I.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
November 1, 2016 at 18:00 #1269978I’m in, good luck all!
November 1, 2016 at 18:10 #1269979Good man Nathan, you’re a star

Great stuff Joliff, if your 2 choices in the Melbourne Cup are anything
to go by, you’re in with a good shout mate
November 1, 2016 at 18:51 #1269986IM IN BUT SEEM TO BE THE ONLY ONE LOL. PUT THE PRIVATE LEAGUE DETAILS IN. BUT IM THE ONLY ONE IN THIS LEAGUE SO FAR LOL
November 1, 2016 at 19:58 #1269998Welcome lionroars, glad to have you aboard

I think we are all in the same position with the league, when I click on the private league
it only shows my name. To the left of my name it shows TRF. When I click on TRF you get the
message “competition leaders will appear here from 11/11/2016”. I’m thinking that they might start
showing the league members, and where they are in the league competition, when the competition is
up and running. Having said that, that is different from last year when you could see a list of
all members. It would be helpful if we could see how the league was building up, there may well
be some who have joined the league, but not necessarily mentioned it on the thread. I’ll contact
Mathew Taylor again at attheraces, he was very helpful and let me know they were still putting
finishing touches a couple of weeks back. He should be able to let us know if there are teething
problems or whether it should all just fall into place on 11/11/16.November 1, 2016 at 22:48 #1270060Thanks for the update Graham I almost registered again as I appeared to be the only one like lionroars LOL
Looks like we’re all in the Changing Rooms waiting for the race to begin in earnest.
Look forward to it all starting and seeing who’s playing…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 2, 2016 at 09:21 #1270090YES THANKS FOR THE UPDATE GRAHAM. THOUGHT I WAS PLAYING MYSELF. AT LEAST I MIGHT WIN GUYS
November 3, 2016 at 11:48 #1270302I received a very helpful email back from Mathew Taylor (Director of New Media and Innovation,
At The Races) which explains the situation with regard to the private league problem, and mentions
some other helpful info, I’ll copy it below.Hi Graham,
I spoke with the developers and the answer is that under the current code you won’t see the other players in your league until the competition is under way, however, we will try to change that over the next few days provided it’s not too complex – thank you for spotting it and raising it with me. A private leagues table is an idea we’ve toyed with for a while but struggled to come up with a fair formula… I think the fairest might be to go with rankings being based on average score of the top 10 players. If we get chance to do it we will; the prize will be modest though… something like 10 ATR baseball caps!
Great to get your feedback on the competition and thanks for your support through TRF. I’ve read TRF for years – your contributors are very much my idea of the target audience for our site – and I’d be very interested to see if there is any way we could work a little bit together (not sure if you are an admin or know one of the admins)? I met up with someone from TRF years ago but it never really came to anything as the timing wasn’t quite right.
The kind of thing I’d love to get feedback on from the TRF users is stuff like the Sectional Timing work we’ve recently done and our mobile/tablet apps. It strikes me that your users have what I would term “positively critical” eyes and that’s what we need! In return we could perhaps provide some content to the TRF site in terms of video etc. If you could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.
Best wishes and good luck for the competition,
Matthew
ATR, and Mathew in particular, have been very helpful and responded positively to suggestions made.
Bobby, I think Cormack would be interested in this, do you want me to pass it on to him or perhaps
you might want to speak with him yourself?November 3, 2016 at 12:03 #1270304Bobby, it might be helpful to you or Cormack if I let you have my response to Mathew. I hope
I haven’t overstepped the mark suggesting we would be interested in some collaboration
between TRF and ATR.Hello Mathew
Many thanks for you reply, which is really helpful and allows me to update members who have shown an interest in the Stable Stars competition and had thought they maybe hadn’t registered properly for the league, as they could only see themselves. I asked about the league table as this has been brought up a few times, but I could see there would be problems with this. It would hardly be fair if a league containing 50 were compared against one of 20, the top 10 players is an interesting idea.
I’m not admin, but I contribute very regularly and do communicate with admin, David Cormack is head of admin (cormack 15), and the moderators. I am also no expert in Sectional Timings, but there are those on the forum who could rightfully claim to being well versed in that area. I’m sure there could be a positive exchange of views on that topic.
I will update to those on the Stable Stars thread, if you look into the forum you would find it under the “Racing Competitions” section. Incidentally, you will be able to identify me as “BigG”…..not very original I grant you.
Many thanks for all your help and I will be sure to pass this onto David, I’m sure he would welcome any collaboration between ATR and TRF.
Many thanks again
November 3, 2016 at 14:10 #1270320Thanks Bobby, I was just looking for Mathew to clarify the position with the private leagues, which
he was helpful in clearing up. But with his further input, I thought it worthwhile to pass on his
comments, and if Corm or Matron think there may be any worthwhile collaboration, then fair enough
…..and yes, we are nothing if not “positively critical”
