After what must rival Gareth Bale in the signing stakes HRI has finally signed a new deal with ATR.
ATR have also been offered a seat on the HRI/AIR board

That might be more beneficial for us viewers, however it’s HRI/AIR who will have a seat on the ATR board.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

Sorry misread
August 28, 2013 at 14:18 #449677As part of the deal it might be an idea for ATR to insist on a more engaging style from the Irish commentators.
August 28, 2013 at 14:38 #449678Good job ATR won the rights for Irish racing, they can not afford to lose any more top class racing. As racing enthusiasts/punters it is surely not in our best interests for all the good stuff to be on one channel?

Too right please pension off Des Scahill who has the most boring monotonous voice.

Des has no personality it would be in ATR’s interest to employ their own commentator for the channel and leave Des to the racecourse punters.
They need someone who they can interact with the studio presenter make it seem more friendly not like we just dropping in and spying on the race.

Why? I would of thought it was perfectly reasonable to expect one specialist racing channel to cover the sport in Britain rather than two.
One subscription rather than two for starters. Both current channels leave a lot to be desired for me so I’m not sure all the the British racing being on one channel would make much difference.
August 29, 2013 at 11:24 #449745It would not have been one channel as RUK/Setanta planned to have Irish Racing on it’s own channel.
Therefore Irish Racing would not benefit from being shown free to air with Doncaster, Newcastle, Lingfield etc.
The channel would have flopped and the Irish would have been left with no one showing their racing like when RUK dropped US and South African racing, RUK do not stick with ideas for very long.
It would have gone back to ATR in the end when RUK got bored of their new toy.
