Sprinter had a fibrillating heart didn’t he? Like Galopin des Champs and Denman. If it’s fixed it’s fixed. Who knows if Shiskin’s bone thing did leave a legacy and also if his wind is deteriorating.

I don’t buy the chat of him needing a trip. Not much was made of that when he was winning the Supreme or the Arkle or his open company successes. I think Henderson did say “he stays well” but don’t recall him ever saying boys a dear he needed every yard of that after any of his wins. The last Seven Barrows two miler who suddenly needed further was Altior and we all know how that went. Jonbon was unfit enough to have to work against one lowly rated horse last weekend, if Shishkin isn’t hard fit the other two will eat him. Pic d’Orhy isn’t going to let him have a gentle school round and Fakir will make him run to the line.

But is a 90% Shiskin good enough , that tingle creek run wasn’t a disaster , I honestly think he’ll win

“But is a 90% Shiskin good enough”.

No. Shishkin’s top OR was 177. 90% of 177 – peak Shishkin- is 159. Fakir and Pic d’Orhy are currently rated 164 and 162. I think people like to believe that the star horses are some special species but they aren’t. Margins are tight at the top, too tight to turn up with an unfit horse that’s past his best (and a year older than his two main rivals, albeit with less than half the race miles on the clock that the other two have…and he couldn’t even stand that).

Instances of horses winning Grade 1s when not at their best are few and far between.

It is, for sure, a game of fine margins.

I fancy Shishkin the least out of the three market leaders.

I just cannot warm to Shishkin in this. I think that Fakir will win, but at the price I wouldn’t be betting him, with a rejuvenated Pic D’ohry in there. At this moment a race to enjoy for me

Pic D’ohry only ran once at Cheltenham and that was his first run for Nicholls 4 years ago
I think Saturday is the day they will be looking to win the illusive grade 1 and possibly the plan for a while
Shishkin and Fakir D’oudaries will have to be sharp to beat him..

He’s the one being bet that’s for sure. 9/4 from 7/2 earlier in the week and Fakir out to 11/8 from 5/4.

I wonder if Pic D’hory has been overbet.

His last run was good (I backed him), that was soft ground back on good ground here where his form ties in closely with Millers Bank who is around a 9-1 shot which looks about right. I would put Pic D’hory as around an 11-2 shot for this. And he will have company for the lead with Aye Right in there so will have more trouble bossing the field like he has done recently.

Fakir has every chance of catching the pacesetters and win if they are taking the race seriously still with the Ryanair in mind, unless Shishkin makes a sterling comeback and beats ’em all.

I’ll be going in on Millers Bank for a little fun, but it’s a fabulous race in prospect. Plenty to like about all of them.

Pic d’Ohry has to be the one after his last run. Shishkin seems done to me and Fakir d’Oudairies didn’t look great either in his last runs. Pic d’Ohry probably will skip Cheltenham as well, must be primed for this.

How come most people in this thread (or, for that matter, the person who registered the horse’s name) can’t spell Pic d’Orhy properly? 🤷‍♂️

    It’s a well-known mountain in the Pyrenees.

Anyway: Shishkin wins this. The vibes are unusually positive for a horse on the comeback trail.

Given that Ascot racecourse is basically Gladders’s back garden, Chezza wouldn’t normally dispute a word Gladders says on matters pertaining to Gladders’s lawn.

However, Chezza has backed Pic D’Orhy (SIC as registered) at just over 4/1 ante-post as Chezza takes the view Shishkin is a horse with issues – and needing further nowadays isn’t necessary one of them.

Doctor Chezza prescribes some lower-grade horses to race against for Shishkin – and he doesn’t get that today.

“Fakir d’Oudairies didn’t look great either in his last runs’

Remember that FD was giving the horse that fell, who looks useful and has every chance winning his own race at Gowran today, 9 pounds.

I’m in full outright-punt mode this w/e, as evidenced by my selections in the other ‘big’ races today.

First Flow, for me, to upset ’em.

Best of luck to all today :good:

Chezza would like to point out that Wilts spelt First Flow correctly and Mike ingeniously evaded Gladderseque scrutiny (which never fails to entertain) by using the acronym “FD.”
