Sad to report that the ex-Paul NIcholls trained Armaturk broke down today at Cottenham PTP and had to be destroyed…
He was always one of my favourites – gutsy and consistent despite usually being up against it with the handicapper. He won a Grade 1 at Aintree in his novice year, but the run that sticks in my mind was his handicap win at Cheltenham when he gave weight and a beating to Well Chief – not a bad effort that…
March 15, 2009 at 21:44 #216576Thanks for posting this TDK. Very sad to hear and no doubt others will have similar views to mine in terms of the races he’s been campaigned in in the last 18 months or so.

Bad news – would have liked to see him live out his life doing something other than racing …March 15, 2009 at 22:36 #216592Awful news.
I remember him once dumping Sam Thomas off, not sure where at. Always was a horse with talent.
RIP.
March 15, 2009 at 22:46 #216596I remember him beating Bleu Superbe off 150 at Lingfield a couple of times.
Armaturk was a very tough cookie.

March 16, 2009 at 00:00 #10614Sad to report the death today of former Grade One winner Armaturk, best known for finishing third to Moscow Flyer in the 2002 Arkle, winning the Maghull at Aintree that same season, and giving weight and a beating to Well Chief later in his career.
He was pulled up having suffered a fatal injury in the Mens Open at the Fitzwilliam Point-to-Point at Cottenham this afternoon.
