Ouch.
As someone who is heavily into Marine Nationale, that’s painful.
February 3, 2024 at 14:41 #1679555Strange ride on Marine Nationale today
Should have been closer and better positioned turning in but had pulled the horse back twice after the back straight
February 3, 2024 at 14:43 #1679558Didn’t show his normal gears today for whatever reason.
February 3, 2024 at 14:44 #1679560The winner won at The Dublin Racing Festival last year before getting beat at the festival by Facile Vega. I think Facile Vega likes the hill at Cheltenham and could reverse the form. Marine Nationale though was a huge disappointment

February 3, 2024 at 14:48 #1679563Marine Nationale ran like a horse who needs a wind op
Went out like a light, like he couldn’t breath properly
February 3, 2024 at 14:49 #1679566Marine Nationale did not jump the first fence in the back straight very well (completely missed by Jerry Hannon). He never really went well after that.
No idea how he can still be favourite for this race.
February 3, 2024 at 15:15 #1679593Race is wide open now isn’t it? On paper people will probably say Facile is back but the form book says hes been beaten twice by Found A Fifty now who jumps right at most of his fences. No idea about Marine Nationale but that wind has to be a concern. Facile might still win this on bottomless but hes no superstar. Il Etait Temps doesnt like the hill at Cheltenham does he? Maybe the best of ours arent miles behind after all
February 3, 2024 at 15:35 #1679600I wonder if Hunters Yarn will go to the Newlands chase or the Flyingbolt, then here, even if they are a bit close. He’s the only one I can think of with enough scope to turn up and take the race by the scruff unless Facile improves for the run, gets soft ground (and perhaps a tongue tie) and has a jockey who puts him right for every fence in the first half and inspires him to let fly at them for the rest of it.
February 3, 2024 at 15:55 #1679615If you’re a Hunters Yarn fan Green, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on Path D’oroux in the next
February 3, 2024 at 15:56 #1679616Feels like the Put The Kettle on/Duc Des Genievres etc arkles to me at the moment. Can see a bumper field particularly if Gaelic scares them away from the Turners.
Major negative for me that Willie barely acknowledges the winner from today. He knows hes not an arkle winner in a million years.

A bit short for me and I’m bad at handicaps, just had token 50p ew on Pat’s Choice.
February 3, 2024 at 16:16 #1679631Mark, I agree it was a poor ride today on the favourite. Far too cautious on him and kept meeting fences on the wrong stride.
If they get him right for March, I still think he’ll bolt up. Facile Vega ran a stinker at Leopardstown last season but came good at The Festival.
February 3, 2024 at 17:13 #1679651Mullins saying the winner has improved since chasing so couldn’t completely rule him out

February 4, 2024 at 10:23 #1679765Gaelic warrior @10s now, hes definitely going to come here after that shower of …. Yesterday, he’d win this with minimum fuss
Id like him to lose today to confirm he absolutely comes here, but i dont think it matters anyway, he’ll run in this
February 4, 2024 at 10:32 #1679767I think Willie still really believes in Facile Ham and unless they switch them I can’t see a world in which Gaelic Warrior comes here and Paul has to choose the ride. Facile’s not without a chance of course and I do think Cheltenham will help him but he’s probably going to end up going off close to fav because of the hype and the Mullins factor, the cold hard facts are he’s been beaten in two prep runs now, didn’t win the Supreme even with his favoured ground and he’s just not anywhere near as good as some of the best winners of this.
February 5, 2024 at 12:20 #1680028Cashed in Marine Nationale for now. He may want better ground at the Festival so it’s a wait and see from me.
February 5, 2024 at 13:36 #1680039It was only Marine Nationale’s second run over fences. The lack of experience was a big factor and the trainer has never denied he wants the ground as quick as possible.
At 11/4 he’d be a strong selection for me if the ground is good to soft on the day. There has been an overreaction to one result. I do like Il Etait Temps and had already backed him at 14s for the Arkle. He has improved for fences as they’ve calmed him down. However, Leopardstown is his track and he’s now too short at 5s.
