Douvan IMO could be the best of all Mullins machines. The field was small but contained some very promising young chasers. Douvan swotted them aside.
December 27, 2015 at 00:50 #1227340You wouldn’t think Vaniteux would be in the same parish as Douvan I reckon.
December 27, 2015 at 10:55 #1227366Douvan looks a beast of a horse he was awful over the last two fences though…Vaniteux may be some way behind him but one thing you can say about Vaniteux last time is he put in a fantastic round of jumping for a first attempt…lets see how he jumps again today
December 27, 2015 at 10:58 #1227367At the moment it seems that a fall is the only thing that could stop Douvan. He appears to jump exceptionally well upsides but has got a little careless a couple of times when sent clear. That safety element might well develop with time.
December 27, 2015 at 13:35 #1227383It’s amazing how people overreact. Vaniteux was rated 147 as a novice over hurdles. douvan was rated 160. A horse doesn’t just improve that much for a fence, and hence the reason why all the hype about vaniteux was hard to fathom
December 27, 2015 at 14:58 #1227390The thing that struck me about his performance is that when he gets it slightly wrong at a fence (the last two today and the last of his debut) he is very clever and seems quite nimble for his size – I noticed at the last today he actually kicked several bits of birch from the fence about 6-8ft up into the air behind him.
He has some engine as it was reported that the sectional times he did were particularly impressive given the ground conditions.
December 27, 2015 at 17:35 #1227422Is there any indication yet whether Douvan will stay 3 miles?
December 27, 2015 at 18:50 #1227433I know it did not beat much today as tthebob ran no sort of race but you had to be impressesd how he just coasted throughout the race and won as he liked.
I just hope Vaniteux does the same tomorrow at Kempton, then we could be in for a fantastic Arkle come MarchCan’t agree he didn’t beat much; field was small, but all promising chasers. Has Douvan ever been extended?
If he has then I haven’t seen it. We will have to wait and see what he is made of when push comes to shove. Exciting.
December 27, 2015 at 19:02 #1227435Sadaly Vaniteux was disappointing however what was even more disappointing that Henderson said after the race that he needed it and there would be improvement.
I know trainers have to be loyal to owners but I feel put away by that comment today from him. It’s not the first time he as done it though. Having said that it would need to improve enourmously to trouble DouvanDecember 30, 2015 at 23:33 #1227720Good to see lami serge entered up once again, assume the entry means he’s got over his chest infection.
I’d be assuming that this won’t affect his ability.
Genuinely believe from nicky hendersons tone of voice the story about lami having a trapped epiglotis last year and him being distraught that he diddnt finish in the top 2 in the supreme, he was adamant that this is a much better horse than he showed on that occasion.
It’s very rare I will believe a trainers excuses but on this occasion it
Led me to backing him at 14/1 for the arkle to cover my 3/1 douvan.January 29, 2016 at 04:31 #1231070Sanity is not statistical but I am buoyed to see a couple of L’Ami Serge supporters here. Personally I think he’ll reverse form and win pretty comfortably. His run in the Supreme was ridiculously good given the passage he suffered. Geraghty got squeezed out at the beginning and paid for it all the way round. Hampered, bumped, nearly brought down, had his runs blocked off and jumped like a chaser all the way round.
Douvan’s obviously an animal but 4/7 is insane given that Faugheen is 2/5. A lot of value left in L’Ami Serge at 7-8/1.
January 30, 2016 at 17:55 #1231323L’Ami Serge was available at 11.5 earlier. Way too big.
February 2, 2016 at 09:34 #1231794Skybet are going 4/6 Douvan for a limited time today

Hopefully you are proved incorrect!
February 8, 2016 at 08:53 #1232790If Alisier D’Irlande takes up his entry and runs like he did yesterday he’ll give Douvan the perfect toe into the race.

February 8, 2016 at 10:48 #1232796… he’ll give Douvan the perfect toe…
I know that Mullins described Douvan as being a “different species” but that just sounds freaky.
