Would never have backed Captain Chris if i had looked over the form allday.

Was on Ghizao, thought he was going ok until he hit the fence near the top bend.

Carberry traded near 5/4. Just stopped when he say daylight….

Is the track slower on the inside than the outside…the horses seem to be going up and down in the same spot on the inside

Nice performance from Captain Chris at Kempton.

In my opinion, he looks more of a three miler than a two miler. Shapes well over his fences, but I just think that he’s struggled in the jumping department because he’s been asked to compete against some seriously good, potentially high class two milers.

The way he stayed on at Sandown over two miles-five convinced me he would be a better horse over further and that opinion was reinforced this afternoon.

I think he could be a serious player in the King George next season. The dam stayed three miles and Kings Theatre has produced the likes of Wichita Lineman and, of course, Riverside Theatre.

The Gold Cup could stretch his stamina, but I wouldn’t completely dismiss it. Will follow with interest next season.

OK, let’s see if I can get it right this time. I managed to edit the above post instead of quoting it the first time!!

I backed Captain Chris ew today, but I still maintain that he is no two miler.

He was being niggled at today from the halfway stage and effectively beat a horse who will also come into his own over further.

Kicking King finished runner-up to Well Chief in an Arkle. Best Mate was a leading fancy for the race, only for the meeting to be cancelled and Kauto Star would surely have gone close but for injury.

He will certainly stays three miles and his pedigree suggests that you couldn’t rule him out staying the Gold Cup trip. His full sister has been placed over two miles-six over hurdles.

The quicker Philip Hobbs sends him over further the better. The King George could be ideal.

Be interesting to see if Finnian’s does want further – I’m not convinced.

Chris outstayed him but the runner-up jumped superbly.

Cracking performances from the 1st two home.

Medermit was disappointing, was he outpaced?

Not convinced Finian’s Rainbow will develop into a Gold Cup horse. I think his optimum trip will be two miles-four / five.

I was against the horse since his second Newbury success. Here’s a extract from an earlier post I made:

I love the way he travels in his races, but he flattered to deceive in the Neptune Investment last year after travelling better than anything at the bottom of the hill.

He found precious little when Rite Of Passage and Reve De Sivola kicked for home and if you look back at the Kingmaker yesterday, he wasn’t doing anything in a hurry and Kilmurry was certainly rallying before his fatal injury.

When he wins he looks likes a world beater, but when the chips are down he doesn’t find a great deal.

The same thing happened yesterday. He was travelling better than anything at the bottom of the hill, Captain Chris rallied and Finian’s didn’t find as much as expected.

I stated before the race that he and Captain Chris were the most talented horses in the field. The difference is that Finian’s Rainbow is not particularly strong in a finish. That’s not to say he lacks courage, which is completely different, but at the highest level it’s one attribute that you need and it’s no coincidence that Finian’s Rainbow has now run in three Grade Ones, travelled better than anything and got beat everytime.

Captain Chris, however, could be a Gold Cup horse.
