Sicknote Europe will probably cry off if the going gets tough. When Captain Cee Bee fell, he was cantering allover Sizing Europe, and he would have won head in chest.
7/2 is an awesome price.
Considering how long he was off after his Supreme win I think it’s CBB who has more to answer with regards to his durability. Cantering all over SE is a massive overstatement and the difference in their prices two weeks before the Festival is way over the top and owes more to hype than anything else.
March 2, 2010 at 22:34 #280154Captain Cee Bee is the banker of the meeting!!
Wins by 10 lengths on the snaff!!
March 2, 2010 at 22:39 #280158IT’S ALL GOOD
March 2, 2010 at 22:49 #280162It’s all about opinions and imo Cee Bee was cruising beside Sizing Europe. I think he’s quicker and I think he stays stronger. I feel he has all the Irish horses covered. The only horse who has any sort of chance of beating the Captain is the unexposed Somersby.

Exactly we’ll see in a couple of weeks. I just hope like everyone here that out of the dozen or so bets i’ll have that two or three win.
March 2, 2010 at 23:17 #280170Any thoughts on riverside theatre?
I am a sizing fan so i’ll say,
theres no way you can say CB would have beaten him they were neck and neck one stayed on his feet the other one fell!

Here here
March 3, 2010 at 05:09 #280184If CCB stays on his feet I genuinely make him an even money shot. This is a very special horse. Given the small doubts over his jumping (I’ll be holding my breath a little at the 3rd last I admit!) I guess something like 7/4 would be about right on the day. So at the likely 3/1+ that will be available, he rates an outstanding bet imo.
March 3, 2010 at 09:30 #280196Even head-on it’s clear he made a mistake but the print would be good to see certainly!
Just re-watched CB’s races and people have put in their heads something that isn’t on the track imo. Sizing Europe was being urged forward sooner because he’s more of a stayer, that’s why he was keeping close tabs on Osana. It wasn’t a championship pace race and rightly imv they didn’t want to get done for sheer pace by…..a horse with a sharp turn of foot. CB looks to be cruising but in fact he has been urged along also, and, as has happened in all of his races so far, when the pace has quickened he’s made mistakes. He did so against Sizing Europe when he shouldn’t – he was going "easily" wasn’t he? I doubt that. Sizing was traveling well but in keeping with his strengths was being asked to pick up and race from further out, so he needed to be asked to maintain what he was doing.
But people see a horse cantering (apparently), and falling, and predict the easy win. But he fell. And he made a very similar mistake in his first race and his last race.
Bizarre to me that people are quick to pour scorn on Sizing, CCB is something of a machine also, but far, far from perfect thus far.
Which is why I asked my question!!
Thanks Big Bucks you’ve answered shabby’s question to me too. I didn’t think the early pace set by Osana was sedate in fact I think Andrew MacNammara’s error was to go with the early pace, I doubt if he’ll do that again in The Arkle….anyway the fences are there to be jumped…he did CCB din’t end of story
SE has always looked like a chaser to me and he din’t pack it in he go injured in the Champ Hudle 2 years ago.
Look at it this way, I had him with Tidal Bay, Denman and Garde Champetre in a yankee that year, if anyone has reason to slag the horse off surely it’s me but I know if he’d kept sound for another couple of furlongs he’d have won that day.March 3, 2010 at 10:19 #280205Even head-on it’s clear he made a mistake but the print would be good to see certainly!

The problem with him is that he might always be feeling something. A bad back is a bad back.

March 3, 2010 at 11:33 #280208The way Captain Cee Bee was travelling in comparison to the eventual winner is clear for all to see – he was cantering, pure ence.
and simple – but it’s the move he made around the relatively short bend that marks him out as something a little bit special. He came from perhaps five lengths back to sit on Sizing Europe’s tail without any effort whatsoever and there isn’t a horse in the Arkle field capable of dealing with that sort of acceleration. He’s superstar material and, as far as I’m concerned, a cast-iron banker for Cheltenham.
Good post. Add in the fact that the horse hasn’t got anywhere near his beloved good ground in any of his races yet and I really do think that we have a superstar on our hands.
March 3, 2010 at 11:47 #280210The problem with Sizing Europe is he’s too one-paced for the Arkle imo. He cruises around but when push comes to shove he’ll struggle to go with Caotain Cee Bee and Somersby imo.
I’m pretty sure there won’t be as many horses thereabouts coming to last this year as last year anyway.
March 3, 2010 at 11:55 #280211Forpady was/is essentially one-paced, key to him being a big field/strong pace and his superb jumping.
March 3, 2010 at 12:11 #280216You are right Big Bucks, but there was no horse of the calibre of Captain Cee Bee in the race last year. He’ll smoke ’em all!
March 3, 2010 at 12:17 #280219True, although his rivals all jumped really well. Can’t challenge if you’re smacking fences like the CB does!
March 3, 2010 at 12:30 #280222The only problem withCaptain Cee Bee’s jumping is he tends to land quite steeply, which is a slight worry, particularly for a fence like the 3rd last at Cheltenham, but I think when he gets his ground he’ll be much more assured. Don’y worry about Sizing!!
March 3, 2010 at 12:56 #280227thm…not sure I agree that he lands too steeply is actually his technical problem (if he has one).
He actually jumps very flat over a fence and this leads him to leave his back legs low. On occasion when he is too low his rear end strikes the fence throwing it up and his front end down (Leopardstown).
I think he will probably be alright in the Arkle as good novices tend to learn through errors. You cant win the Arkle by jumping cautiously…thats for sure. - AuthorPosts
