WhileIhave backed him forthe Arkle I wouldn’t be too upset if he missedi it.
Wherever they send him he’s one to follow and a pretty easy horse to sum up.
I would advice everyone to forget whathe did over hurdles and don’t try to access his resolution from what he did back the….Riunning on 4th in a hurdle race is always a good bet in a novice chase they used to say.
Once fit, the way he jumps he’ll be winning a few on on the bridle and Imsingingtheblues for one won’t be beating him again in a hurry.
December 17, 2008 at 17:09 #197637I’ve been hoovering up the last of the 20-1 about Made in Taipan over the past few days- if you can still get it grab some, it’s a terrific price.
December 17, 2008 at 17:28 #197639I’ve been very impressed with him since he’s gone over fences Carvills. He looked a class act at Naas in his beginners chase. Form of that race has worked out really well. Jayo, Rare Bob, Wins Now and Coscorrig have all come out and run well since.
He was way better going left handed over hurdles so you’d imagine that Cheltenham will suit him down to the ground. He certainly won’t be 20/1 if he beats Forpady on Stephen’s Day.
December 26, 2008 at 20:33 #199309Really like the look of Follow The Plan for this after just seeing him give 11lbs and a beating to tatenen, when you look at how he done it, he looks a steal for cheltenham at 12-1.

It was a very taking performance wasn’t it.
Tatenen was very impressive at Cheltenham, however, you now have to have a look at what he beat. Straw Bear, who didnt take to fences at all, and although he was given a less than impressive ride from McCoy today, doesnt seem to be the horse that he was in previous seasons.
The 3rd horse that day then finishes 4th in a race at Newbury, next time out.
Tatenen may perform better at Cheltenham, but as you say, 12/1 about Follow The Plan, looks excellent value after today
December 26, 2008 at 22:49 #199351Don’t say I never told you so…..Typical bookies extracting the urine. They jump a few fences beat nothing. PN’s name next to them and they make them stupid prices…he won’t win the Arkle and I wouldn’t touch him at 10/1 let alone the miserable 5’s on offer now.
We are along way off working out what will win this Arkle…….can’t believe Calgary Bay is still 33/1 in places I must be missing something.
December 27, 2008 at 04:00 #199421Fist,
you dont miss much, but i am a big fan of "Forpadydeplasterer" and think this very lightly raced horse would be ideally suited to the 2m
of the "Arkle", he stays further which helps too!December 27, 2008 at 06:26 #199447I definitely think the arkle picture became a bit clearer there, looking at the way Tatenen travelled in the race and moved clear of the field, it would be hard to argue that he didnt run to a rating in the mid 140s, which would suggest that Followthe plan has thrown in an honest looking rating in the mid 150s.
IMO there wont be many arkle contenders with ratings in the mid 150s come march and on that alone, he is well worth his 12-1 but when you look at how much improvement he would look to have about him and that he went better with every yard in the finish, he would look to be crying out for the cheltenham hill.
Despite the Racing Post quoting the ground as Soft, I wouldnt expect it wasnt much more than good-soft,looking at how they finished in the two big races there and the relevant times, and IMO it is very likely that everything will be in FTPs favour groundwise come cheltenham.
At 12-1 he certainly looks the one to beat, and looks to some improvement, looks like a bet to me, and think he will shorten when his rating is published, as happened with khyber kim last season.
If this horse was in a bigger yard he wouldnt be 12-1, but the fact that he is most likely the stables best chance come cheltenahm is IMO a plus.
December 27, 2008 at 14:43 #199473I think Nicholls needs his head examined when it comes to his Arkle horse, myself.
Can someone explain to me at which point I’msingingtheblues wrote himself out of the picture?
The form with Briareus looks even stronger now following the King George (albeit it was over 3m, it stamped Briareus as a very good animal), and I think I’msingingtheblues is already capable of earning a rating in the high-140’s, at the very least.
I can’t understand his Arkle price, and I can’t understand why Nicholls apparently does not think he is good enough for the race. His form is aleady superior to both Tatenen and Free World, and both that pair will lose lbs in allowances by Cheltenham. It has me scratching my head, I have to say.
December 27, 2008 at 15:41 #199487Don’t forget Oumeyade, Grass. His form is as strong as anything Nicholls has for the Arkle, yet for some reason or another he’s being kept exclusively to right-handed tracks.

I agree with you.
I can tell you that we think a lot of Greenbridge, and the way Imsingingtheblues brushed him aside at Kempton earlier on in the season, was very impressive. We think Greenbridge will be better in the second half of the season, however, Imsingingtheblues’ performance was excellent that day. He travelled well and he jumped superbly, very fluently.
I too think that he would be ideal for the Arkle.

Calgary Bay’s ante-post offerings vary from 16s to 33s. Connections are reluctant to name a long-term target and I think that is reflected in his price.
If the effort of Briareus in the King George boosts the form of I’msingingtheblues, what does it say about Calgary Bay? Like many of Henrietta’s horses, he’ll come on for his seasonal debut when his was narrowly beaten by a fitter and more experienced animal (and, yes, possibly more resolute)
For those of you interested, Calgary Bay is entered in a Beginners’ Chase at Warwick on Wednesday over two miles. We should know more about him then.
December 29, 2008 at 04:59 #200058IMHO the Henry VIII at Sandown still looks the best novice form all season and the first two would have a chance in the QM based on my speed ratings (betting without Master Minded). They were miles clear of some good yardsticks and both showed the ability to battle and travel at Championship speed. With Araldur a far from certain runner, Free World is still the one for me at Cheltenham.
December 29, 2008 at 08:50 #200088The racing post have went 158 about about yesterdays performance which IMO looks about right, and he is rightly at the top of the 2 mile novice chasing pile. He has so much potential and I hope he improves. Please send him for the irish arkle.

Is Doctor David not also worth consideration, having demolished Kalahari King at Haydock?
He doesn’t have the ‘sexy connections’ of the likes of Tatenen, Free World and Aralpur, but the 20/1 about him is certainly favourable to Kalahari’s best-priced 16/1 (12/1 and 14/1 generally).
December 29, 2008 at 22:18 #200260The trouble with those ‘sexy connections’ Equi’ is that they keep winning the Arkle.
December 30, 2008 at 02:08 #200304Doctor David clearly has a decent chance, kalahari king was very in and out though last season and it took a decent pace in the Supreme Novice to bring out the best in him, he may have much more in march. Like free world but I think both he, tatenen and doctor david are essentially speedy horses though and I think there will be a bit of a grind on in this years arkle.
I was just very taken with FTPs win on saturday, more by how tatenen travelled and pulled clear in the race and was reeled in recieving so much weight, it looks the definite best performance Ive seen, and he deserves to be about 5-1 IMO on that performance IMO, let alone 12-1.
