Quote: from Aidan on 2:04 pm on Dec. 17, 2006[br]I loved the way he picked up the leader and went clear in a couple of strides. Looks to have bundles of talent and toe. Having seen him in the flesh I have to say (and I know its an old cliche) but anything he does over hurdles is a bonus as he has chaser written all over him. If the ground was on the easy side in March he looks as though he would have enough pace for the 2 miler.

Looks very big and a little weak yet but a nice type.

Fortunately, I was unclear about Tipperary Allstar’s target at Chelters, having muddled up the Supreme and the Ballmore in  my mind by that stage. So, fortunately, he won’t be crossing swords with Aran Concerto.<br>Not that I’d be as confident about AC at this stage.

Grimes -I have followed Tipperary All Star closely over the last few season and if you think he is a Champion Hurdler in the making you are way off the mark. His wins at Punchestown and Cheltenham came off very modest marks.I remember place laying the horse at Roscommon last summer. He is a million miles away from a Champion Hurdler winner. The fact that Ruby deserted him on Saturday speaks volumes.

McCoy’s retainer with McManus meant Tarlac was always his ride.

Again hardly put a foot wrong today. Despite wins for Well Chief and Denman today, this remains the banker of the Festival.

To be honest, I didn’t think he was as impressive this afternoon as he had been previously, but as was the case with Kauto Star the overly sedate pace really went against him.

The fact he was able to win eased down (in the end) is testament to his ability.

It’s a shame that today’s events have told us nothing new about Aran Concerto and that Noel Meade is still debating which engagement to take up. Given that he was to use this race to make such a decision, it’s disappointing that he’s leaving it until the last minute.

Common sense says the Well Chief, Denman, Aran Concerto (Ballymore) treble is well worth a crack; just over 32/1 at the minute. Stick Fair Along in at 3s and you’re laughing.

I would say its odds on he goes for the longer race unless it comes up bottomless. Very rare to see a jockey give his horse a congratulatory pat on the head so shortly after jumping the last as Carberry did today! His jumping has improved no end since his debut, indeed its one of his strenghts now.

You’d be sitting on liabilities at 12’s then ratty. Aidan, I’ll be in tears if he goes for the Supreme.

Carberry had to get quite serious approaching the last but was into grandstanding mode as soon as he realised he’d got it won.

The horse’s task yesterday was made much easier when Catch Me departed and it’s nice to see a journalist telling it like it is for once. In the Post today Alan Sweetman writes: "A review of the race will make painful watching for Geraghty, whose judgement in taking up a position on the outside of the suspect jumper [Leading Run] looked unaccountably naive for a jockey of his experience."

Aran Concerto is the most exciting novice hurdler going to the Festival, but is he a banker? It’s a leap of faith, surely, at this stage. For one reason or another he has beaten only one proven high-class performer so far, and that is Footy Facts. He won a poor bumper, and when we were about to find something out against The Railwayman in his first hurdle, he was KO’d in the most bizarre style. I was looking forward to a real test against Catch Me at the weekend, but again it didn’t happen, and again that wasn’t Aran Concerto’s fault. He has been hugely impressive and definitely has a change of gear, but he’s going to the Festival without ever having been challenged, and that has to be a worry.  What will he find?

Yeah but he did run in a good hurdle race against footy facts and he did find a lot, quickend away rather nicely.  He is bred to stay and perhaps not be the quickest I would have thought. He will take some beating.
