Just popped down the betting shop, mainly to try
and get a bet on the Tennis but whilst in there, witnessed surely
the ride of the week at Market Rasen.

As usual, it was McCoy, this time riding Tempsford for Jonjo, out on his last legs well over half a mile out, but somehow he kept this horse going to get up on the line and deny two other much better travelling/jockeys by half a length.

Not sure if anyone saw it but this was special, not the pocket talking
because I never backed it but if you haven’t seen it already, try and watch it
    online.

    Pure class :D

He ran on past two horses who’d been making the running – the race was 4.40 seconds faster than standard which should tell you that the best place to be was out the back (like Tempsford was).

On the other hand, it’s just unfortunate that he couldn’t conjure up a similar ride on Old Brigade in the following race. Briefly, he headed the leader with two to jump but then allowed Miss A Smith-Maxwell to come back at him and beat him on the run-in.
In the last race he seemed beaten when Premier Kadam took up the running a furlong out but then switched his mount, Black Annie, and came with a strong finish to snatch victory in the final yards.
Typical of my relationship with the guy. When I back him he fails to deliver and when I give him a swerve he does me on the line. That is my pocket talking.
    My personal enigma.

Ken he’s a wonderful talent and I’m just confirming that sometimes you don’t need to be on to appreciate a great, great ride.

Brilliant mate, only been to Town Moor once for the Leger, it’s a long
journey from Kings X, loved it though, fantastic atmosphere…

Is Tempsford the Jonjo horse that won at Bangor last October? I’ve been looking out for him ever since, Thought perhaps he’d been injured or something.

Sympathies lie with Conundrum on this one (the love-in continues apace) … for all his talents I can never, ever get on this guy … guarantee if I back him he’ll be the one under pressure four out and just go backwards … never any do or die heroics to get up on the line when he’s carrying the crippling weight of my money.

… and yes, it’s personal  … ever since he cost me over £3k at the Festival with his ridiculous last gasp win on Wichita Lineman when I had Maljimar with Forpadydeplasterer & Punjabi … like many a "wronged" punter, subsequently I find I feel admiration and loathing in equally irrational amounts.

Bottom line is, for all punters, he’s still the one jockey you don’t want your selection to be up against in a driving finish … you know you’ll lose more than you win. Incredible and unmatched will to win … and sometimes feel he has almost too much courage for both his and his mounts own good when driving tired horses into the last couple of fences. Totally fearless.

Nuptual sympathies there then Burrough Hill Lad…perhaps we should have arranged a ‘joint’ trip to Glastonbury this weekend to "feel the love".
I suppose the most frustrating aspect of Mr. McCoy is that he leaves so many of us ruing our misjudgement when we oppose him, especially when his winners become so glaringly obvious after the event.
If only we had the rationale and means to make the alternative choices when faced with those dilemmas about whether to back him or not. I think when I arrive at the Pearly Gates I’m going to ask Peter if we can wipe the betting slate clean and let me have another try.
    Cheers

Not injured as far as I’m aware, Moe, but more likely kept under wraps for most of the intervening period with the big summer prizes in mind.

I can’t believe Jonjo won’t be thinking of pointing Tempsford at some or all of the triumvirate of the Summer Plate, Lord Mildmay Chase and Equinox Chase (under whichever guise it appears this term) over the next three months, now that he’s on the sort of mark that would get him into all three.

What a grand title for a race GC :)

Not aware of it myself, or not committed to the crumbling hippocampus

Your invention or the registered name for the Listed 0-150 Handicap run at Rasen in late September, sponsored last year by Blue Square?

That’s my own shorthand for it to be honest, Drone, in as much as that Rasen September meeting has been billed as the course’s Equinox meeting on and off for several years.

I prefer referring to that Listed feature (for it is indeed the race I mean) as the Equinox Chase, as at least I can remember that better than whichever bookies firm is bankrolling it from one year to the next!

Maybe we ought to have a word with Rasen clerk of the course and TRF mainstay Lekha85 to have it officially named the Equinox Chase, regardless of whatever sponsors’ name has to prefix it. After all, the default setting of many (most?) of us is to refer to the same course’s Summer Plate as the Summer Plate rather than the Totesport (or whoever) Summer Plate. How about it, Lehka? :)

Ha ha… I do like being referred to as a TRF Mainstay! It’s obviously been noticed that I still hover in the background on here…
The chase formerly known as the Equinox will, I believe, be referred to as the ‘Prelude’ chase (and hurdle, for the prestigious hurdle race run on the same day) all though I am waiting for confirmation on this. Quite why the Equinox prefix was dropped I am unsure but I will investigate and let you know.

Lekha – nothing escapes the eagle-eyed Grayson, as many a tailed off point-to-pointer will testify.

    Lol. Carry on hovering!

No need, Lekha, it turns out my old brain injury has struck again! Further inspection suggests the race in question has been referred to previously (and will be again, by the looks of it) as the Prelude Chase rather than as the Equinox Chase – it was the meeting that had been dubbed Equinox in the past.

None of which should be confused with the Equinoxe Chase in Auteuil, of course, where contenders have to take it in turns to leap over Jean-Michel Jarre. 8)

Ah well, at least I got correct that Tempsford is being aimed at the Plate, judged on this weekend’s early decs. Is it bathtime yet, nurse?
