Can anyone state how many rides are necessary before a jockey knows a horse well enough to get the most out of it? Also is there a difference between getting to know national hunt horses and flat horses?
February 9, 2010 at 03:50 #275060Say Hi Fist; I just read your post. If they both hit the hill exhausted how about Cooldine sneaking in?

Cooldine must have a chance if WM was right about him not being fit enough to win the Hennessy.
I think he could prove to be a better horse than Neptune Collonges in time and look how close he got. Heavy ground and his chances would improved dramatically. He’s a very good horse and give him a lead like NC got and they might regret it.
Obviously he’s got every chance of a place now we know he’s trained on.

Like Willie is going to let us all in on his horses fitness
Aye, THAT’LL be right!February 9, 2010 at 20:09 #275233Feel very sorry for Sam Thomas, who has done little wrong on Denman and looked after him beautifully in last year’s’Gold Cup.
But there’s’no reason why McCoy won’t get on perfectly well with the horse, he’s a supreme jumper after all.
The key part of the race will be from the start of the second circuit to the third last. Over that section, Denman will brutally expose any jumping flaws in his rivals.
By the time they turn in he’ll be beyond recall. 2008 was no fluke.
February 11, 2010 at 13:31 #275594How dare anyone have the temerity to criticise AP?
Stand by for all your favourite media types falling over themselves to put the case for the defence.
Peter Thomas has fired the opening salvo in today’s Post.
However, those looking for an answer to the question ‘what difference does AP make in a major race’ will be a touch disappointed.

I’m still waiting for your extensive list of horses to have improved subsequent to Tony McCoy being jocked off. They can be major race flops or maiden battlers. By all means you take your pick. I wont hold my breath in the meantime.
February 13, 2010 at 14:49 #276119Don’t suppose he’ll be allowed near the horse again. Wouldn’t have happened with Ruby on board IMO. But then, had McCoy galvanised Denman to get up by a nose he’d be a hero and we’d be talking about the bestest ride in all the world ever since horses were born and all that.
Ruby gets them jumping, and will always be light years ahead.
February 13, 2010 at 18:44 #276279Aren’t i clever ? I said "he gets them undecided and they lose confidence" !
He gave Denman the idea they were going long then changed his mind and decided to leave him to get in close. The horse got mixed messages and couldn’t get his feet up in time . Great jockey he WAS . Take my advice and don’t back him over fences and put Skelton,Schofield or anybody on Denman in the Gold Cup.
February 13, 2010 at 18:45 #276282I’m a Denman fan. And I personally am delighted with the booking.
And now ?
