Art Connoisseur looked a pretty obvious one for the Norfolk when quickening up nicely at the Craven meeting although I thought the third was disappointing on Sunday. Mastercraftsman took today’s opener at the Curragh with more in hand than the official verdict and looks more of Coventry type.
May 5, 2008 at 17:50 #161768Foundation Room, who won at Salisbury on Sunday, looked a class act to me, Would like to see her line up in the Queen Mary.
May 5, 2008 at 18:09 #161770Baycat looks as honest they come seems to be progressing well enough and you would think he would have a very good chance in the Windsor Castle, should Art Connoseur go for the Coventry.
Liked Cool Tarifa when she made her debut ealier in the seaon as a queen mary possible but that was an early race and no sign of her since
I am going to have to watch a replay but To The Point won very easily today on debut and you would think she would have a good chance in the Albany Stakes but the Queen Mary appears to be the target for her at present.
One who I found interesting when winning last week was Blas Ceoil, Bolger has had a decent Gaelic named daughter of Mr Greeley the last two seasons and it would be interesting to see what he achieves (if anything) with her.
May 5, 2008 at 18:13 #161771The Paul Cole trained Percolator after watching her rout her opponents over a straight 5f, in a very quick time, at Longchamp today.

Couldn’t see anything in today’s Post – do we know the reason behind crossing the channel to find a winning opportunity?
May 5, 2008 at 20:20 #161799Danehill Destiny.
William Haggas filly very impressive winner at Newmarket on 17th April.Looks interesting for the Queen Mary,Albany or Norfolk as they decide.

I think the prize fund of 34,000€ might have had something to do with it!
And early season 5f 2-y-o races in France are probably even less competitive than ours.

17000 reasons as in Euros for the winner. Filly won very impressively in a Lingfield maiden end of March. I wrote him originally is of course a her.

Generally true but this was a class B conditions race at Longchamp with four of the six runners previous winners. Also just comparing the times with the male equivalent half an hour earlier she was a whopping three seconds faster and showed serious acceleration in the middle of the race under a hand ride. Hard to truly guage but I could see her being largely underestimated if she showed up at Ascot.
May 5, 2008 at 20:51 #161811Hadn’t realised it was such a hot race, perhaps she’ll go for the National Stakes on her way to Ascot.
May 5, 2008 at 21:41 #161827Very interesting posts.
There seems to have been a weight of money on Danehill Destiny for the QM with Corals, the only ones quoting as far as I know. I don’t recall the second fav being so long, yesterday. Or is it my imagination? Though I imagine there could be supplementary entries.
May 5, 2008 at 21:54 #161834Fault looked pretty nippy at Windsor today- serious speed.

Ah, mystery over!!! I received a phone call from a friend of mine in Ladbrokes today asking me to drop in if I was available due to ‘odd goings on’. Basically, the information in the racecards in Ladbrokes stated that a 14 year old horse called Percolator, trained by Paul Nicholls, was running in a 2 year old race at Longchamp!!! Not only that, it was 11-10!!!

May 6, 2008 at 07:41 #161848I would suggest keeping an eye on Brian Smart’s 2-y-os. He has 70 of them this year!!!!.
His first runner Go Nani Go won impressively at Musselburgh, and the only other one that has run was sent off a hot favourite and despite running green wasn’t far behind the winner in a race at Redcar.
He has had a 2-y-o winner at Ascot with Helvellyn in recent years.
I think any 2-y-o he runs in the near future will be well worth watching.

May 6, 2008 at 09:10 #161864Unsurprisngly the time for the Percolator race was bogus. Having hand timed the colts and fillies races, the fillies race was more like a second quicker than 3!
May 6, 2008 at 09:46 #161871DJ,
What did you make of Foundation Room? More of an Albany type, perhaps?

Not necessarily – seems likely to be better suited by 6F, as opposed to Sunday’s 5.
