So many jockeys have come and gone over the years, the majority without a mention in the media.
I have been using this website for several years for reference and it provides a huge amount of information and interesting stories. It is constantly being updated.

Huge praise to George, Chris, Alan and Chas for this creation.
Many on here will probably be aware of this site, but well worth a look if you’ve ever wondered what happened to a particular jockey that you remember.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
January 4, 2026 at 17:58 #1749570My first ever time on a racecourse , must have been Ayr around 87 , I remember being at the paddock and wondering how men could be so small , I can remember reading the racecard and seeing the names Carlisle , Duffield and Tinkler , I backed one of Tinklers at 20s which Kim got done on the line with , my Dad then backed a Tinkler fav that I think ran backwards …. If you’ve not read it i recommends Colin Tinklers bio , I got it for 50p in cancer research a few years ago ….he was a bit of a lad

January 4, 2026 at 20:51 #1749589Looking back at the original post on this thread I note the name Des Cullen. Very significant for me as he was the rider of the first winner I saw on the racecourse, Demi Ordonne winner of the Albermarle Handicap at Ascot on 22nd June 1968.
January 4, 2026 at 21:06 #1749593Plenty of good names from yesteryear on this thread. I remember Bryn Crossley riding one of the first winners I ever backed and also being at Chester and seeing Nicky Carlisle ride the winner of the Chester Cup.
I know weights had to go up as the average person has become larger and heavier but I do think there is less character and variety in the Flat nowadays without horses getting into handicaps with light weights.
