Seem to remember backing her at long odds on in a 2 horse race, I was still in short trousers at the time but does anyone remember Stilvi or much about her?
By Derring Do out of Djerella, she was trained by Bruce Hobbs and was a top broodmare as well as a good racehorse, Tolmi, Taxiarchos, Tachypous, Tenea, Tanaos were some of her offspring.

You’ve forgotten Tromos who was the best of them, Being by Busted, it was remarkable that he was such a precocious animal. Alas there was some evidence he was got at between 2 and 3 years for an autopsy showed searing to his stomach.

You’re right EF, I was trying to think of them all and forgot the best one  I remember Alec Bird saying he’d been got at after his ante-post bet on him for the 2000 gns floundered in the Craven Stakes well beaten by Lyphards Wish. Was that autopsy some years later, I don’t think he died young did he, did he go America?

I think they tried to get him right but couldn’t. I do not think he was that old when he died. He stood as a stallion for a little while but with no great success. Tyrnavos and Tachypous were also relative failures at stud.

As for Stilvi, she won a couple of pattern sprints, the Cornwallis seems to ring a bell and she was rated either 121 or 126 by Timeform. Tromos was given a mark of 134 for his effort in the Dewhurst which is rare for a 2yo.

Thanks stilvi, amazing it’s already been covered and I was a member at the time, memory like a sieve. Thankfully I didn’t contribute to the thread at the time.

Not sure when he took over but Lord John Fitzgerald trained Toxotis as Bruce Hobbs retired and lived in Lakenheath until his death.

What was actually wrong with his stomach that it was "seared" & what could have caused this do you think?

I certainly remember Tolmi, Taxiarchos, Tachypous and Tromos. When Tromos won the Dewhurst in 1978 media said he could be the second coming of Sea Bird. Loved him as a flashy chestnut wearing black, white spots silks. He was a very impressive looking animal. Ahh, the good old days.
