Well, not really a dark horse, but I’m prepared to follow Kingdom of Fife off a cliff this year. His form at the back end of last year was excellent. I’m expecting a win in the Huxley on Thursday.

one for next season, Im So Lucky. I always read in the racing post stable tour about D.Pipe saying he always thought the horse was special and looks a good thing or something like that. Had a crap 09 season, raced 3 times in 2010, placed in 1, unplaced in next, won other.

On the subject of David Pipe,

    The Sliotar

, if he comes back. Outsprinted Blazing Bailey at Ffos Las, but then came across Burton Point in his other Chase start.

    I’m following

    Maderson Blue

    from the Roger Curtis yard.

This is partly due to his ‘off-the-hoof’ blog on the trainer’s website but I get the impression that they think a lot of him. He has been off with various setbacks this year but could be winning again in the coming months.

I’ve been following a horse called Charlie Smirke that’s been doing the rounds at Lingfield. Myself & one of my friends at work got caught up in his run of second places & now we’re always looking forward to his next run.

Although he got absolutely battered at Folkestone last week, I have a big worry that he’s never going to take to turf.

Fabalu, if placed right could also be one to follow. Wish I had a couple which were a lot more obscure, but that’s the best I can do.

Not so much of a dark horse over jumps, but think Deutschland could pick up a decent prize on the flat!

Not sure he’s obscure or a darkhorse but I like Maiden winner Bated Breath a lot.

I’m always a bit worried about saying anything on these sort of topics, especially as I’ve mentioned horses such as Adelar and Ostland in the past!! Haven’t done too well with those two, but Christian told me at the weekend that one of his better horses, Swinging Hawk, has just been sold to Ian Williams, and he could do really well over here. Christian ran the horse in France this season as he felt there were no races good enough for him in Germany. Swinging Hawk has won 3 of his last 5 races and if he takes to hurdling (he’s been well schooled so should be OK), he could be an interesting recruit to novice hurdles this year. Breedwise, he’s by Hawk Wing out of an In The Wings mare called Saldenschwinge, one of the best filles of the 2002-03 season in Germany (won at Group level).

Was given this one as a tip when it made it’s recent winning debut at Ponte! Was told then it was one of Roger Charlton’s better horses in the yard and is well worth keeping on the right side of. Did it very nicely indeed…

One I’ve been following of late which I fancy is close to returning to the winners enclosure is Nigel Tinkler’s King Of Swords.

    Riz Amer

of Francois Cottin – love this horse, I’ll be honest with you all he’s not the best jumper in the world but he’s so big and lean I think he’s a bit of a beast if he could sort his jumping out. He won a 4yo Chase at Pau last year and is due back at Auteuil/Enghien this season.

The only other obscure horse I will really follow is a horse of Willie Austin’s called

    Mossey Joe

who won at Tipp last week. My friend has seen it run in a few points and thinks it’s an absolute machine and I’d trust her judgement more than anyone else I know. He didn’t jump great last week but ran a blinder. Also

    Fiddlededee

who was with Gerard Quirk who won the same day – sold today to go to JJ O’Neill so heck knows what will happen now

Not that obscure but Gigginstown have had four point-to-point/bumper winners this season. The jockey situation is a constant worry but hopefully at least one of them will be graded class next season.

It’s a horse a lot of people won’t have heard of but I’m following as horse called Quinder Spring.

It’s trained by Lucinda Russell for her parents and has won 6 straight point to points this season. It has been running in P2P club members races so far but has won most very easily.

The only horse to even hive it a race was last tme out at Balcormo Mains when Benbeoch got within 5 lengths of him. Benbeoch won a novice hunter chase at Kelso on the bridle this afternoon.

Could be very decent horse in the next few years……

Last Instalment looks top notch Stilvi – ok so some of the owners other horses weren’t overly off the day he won his pointers bumper but he looked the business.

    Bubbly Breeze

from Howard Johnson’s yard. Owned by the trainer and one of his lesser lights, but he’s a chasing type who will need fences and a distance of ground. Ironically I first noted this one when last in a novice hurdle at Musselburgh, though admittedly it was decent contest of its type! Showed up well for a fair way in a novices’ handicap hurdle at Perth last time to indicate he’s going the right way.

One noted at Kelso recently was the George Charlton trained

    Freddie Brown

. He lacked a bit of pace when contesting the bumper that day but kept galloping and will come into his own once presented with obstacles, particularly fences.

Quinder Spring is entered up at Perth on Thursday, I notice.

Given that he was still bang in contention for the Leading Horse title in points this season before sitting out last weekend (where wins for Fully Loaded, Come What Augustus and Indian Print shuffled him back to no better than fourth place), I wonder if connections think they can achieve more with him already than just beating up inferior rivals in NPPA / PPORA / CA races for the rest of term (and with two points meetings still to come at Hexham this month, it’s not as if opportunities close to home in that sphere had run dry).

His rider Grant Cockburn has been one of the finds of 2010 between the flags, too, though his comparative geographical immobility compared to, say, Ed Turner will probably ultimately cost him the novice male riders’ title. No matter – you’ll be hearing plenty more about this rider some day soon, I reckon.

Must be a sign from the Gods this thread being brought back up today!

The horse I mentioned on the previous page runs today and it appears it’s not just me who thinks it’s close to winning again soon. King of Swords runs in a very, very competitive handicap at Beverley and has been put in as the 4/1 favourite by most of the bookies.

    Here’s hoping today’s the day!
