He doesn’t seem 100% safe yet. Could be a longer process and let’s hope with the right outcome.

Yes; it’s awful. I do so want good news about him. Was really concerned for Many Clouds as well for a while.

Gosh! Hopefully they’ll be able to take him home, dose him up with painkillers and retire him.

It seems he has been taken to the Liverpool Equine Hospital for assessment… fingers crossed

Indeed, if any horse deserves a long and happy retirement…

I left the bookies when he fell, thought he was gone, haven’t watched the full race yet but so glad to hear that he is okay, albeit broken ribs…ouch.
Was looking at a beautiful family photo of him before the race and memories of According to Pete came flooding back. If he were mine I would retire him.
Get well soon Balthazar King, there would have been a huge cloud over this years National if you hadn’t got up.

The only news I have is that he has a couple of broken ribs and is showing signs of improvement. But, if they really want to bring him back next year why not start him off in the Chester Cup in a few weeks time???? Don’t waste any time and pick up a few prizes on the Flat.

He’s improving slowly and was out for a little pick at the grass today.

Nice to see him progressing and being less injured than expected. Still he should be counted very lucky to have survived. Not only this fall, but also the one in the CC race in France. How much time to think do connections need? He was 2nd in a GN, won a few CC races and was extremely lucky to escape his last fall. What is there to think about?
By the way, a happy horse looks completely different to me. I believe that he was really suffering despite the pain-killers. Equine life shouldn’t be about pain killers at all. Now just make sure that he would never have to endure such treatment and moments again.
Get well soon Balthazar King and may the brains return to your connections even sooner!

He’s obviously still sore, but receiving first class care. Good to see him being so well looked after. It’s not many connections that would spend what must be a shedload of money getting him back to health. You’ve got to think most would have had him put down. Good luck to him!

We used to loan a pony that had had broken ribs afer being attacked by another horse in his field so broken ribs can happen outside of racing. If every horse was retired immediately after falling in a race there wouldn’t be many horses racing. At least, with broken ribs he will recover, whereas with leg injuries they might go through months of pain and treatment but still have to be euthanised. The sad thing about what happened is that that he probably sustained the injury because he was being followed by Ruby who knew he was probably the safest jumper in the field.

Stupid decision to run him again. Especially with not prep run over very tricky fences.
Don’t forget to enter him for the Velka Pardubicka…..

Ruby again how was it a stupid decision. The horse was fine just made a mistake at the double to unship Johnson but the horse was perfectly fine and gallopped around with them most of the way

Why have a “Memorials” thread full of live animals?

If there is a next time Baltazar King runs, you’ll be shouting for everyone to back him Ex-Ruby – like you did after similar comments about Sire De Grugy.

Seem to remember you also calling for Sprinter Sacre to be retired before his reformation too.
Did you call for Cue Card to be retired with his problems?

    :negative:
