I thought I’d start this thread so anybody could post any ante-post tips they have done or recommend. I’ll get the ball rolling with Monet’s Garden as touched upon in one of the threads. Darkness is the favourite for the RSA Chase but Monet’s Garden comfortably beat it. Considering the races Darkness has won and the lack of competiton IMO in the race 10/1 seems a great price. MG has an engagement on Wednesday.
I will do a points scale of 1-5 and keep track. Hopefully I can post some successful tips.
3pts Monet’s Garden @10/1 RSA Chase (Bet Direct, BetFred, TotalBet)

January 23, 2006 at 11:31 #64139Monets garden may not run in RSA. That’s the perils of antepost betting I suppose

Dempsey beat Tikram and Tysou last time out with the same trip and (expected) ground. Albuhera cant justify favouritism on his previous runs but I think i’ll hedge my bets a little. Most firms are still offering 1/4 1-2-3-4 although William Hills aren’t. Armaturk has a lot of weight but seems overpriced.
3pts win Dempsey @ 6/1
1pt win Fundamentalist @ 14/1 (WHills)
1pt e/w Armaturk @ 16/1 (Sporting Odds) ÂÂÂ
All were voided. Since the rescheduling I’ve just gone for 3pts Dempsey @ 4/1.
Lost to a horse it had beaten last time out and should have had the measure of. Total Profit -3pts
(Edited by FlatSeasonLover at 6:32 pm on Feb. 3, 2006)
Now Feathard Lady is out I think it is straight forward for Hardy Eustace.

January 24, 2006 at 21:27 #64142It looks to me as if Korelo has been laid out for the Skybet Chase at Southwell on Saturday. I got 12s with Bluesquare, Skybet offering 10s, I think.
I don’t think he’s run in a chase here, but ran well in some fairly expensive races, notably a 4 length 4th in a £58,000 Group I in 2002, in France, over 2 miles and six. And of course, he was a pretty good hurdler here more recently.
He ran a decent third last time against Nine de Sivola, and the betting suggests the bookies certainly fear him. Betfred goes as low as 9/1.
He’s down to carry just 10.2 at the moment, and I hope he gets in, because at the moment the field’s pretty big, with 39 above him.

I’ve had a big bet on Eurotrek for the Grand National. I also like Silver Birch at its price.

If you followed my comments a few weeks ago (you must have sleep insomnia or something) then you’ll know I was impressed by Eurotrek romping home. Trainer says it will run barring injury and looks a great e/w bet to nothing to me. Joacci was well behind and beaten when falling in the race Eurotrek won.
3pts e/w Eurotrek @ 7/1 (Bet365)
February 15, 2006 at 13:58 #64146Joacci well beaten? They had barely gone a circuit when he was brought down, he certainly wasn’t beaten at the time of his departure.
February 15, 2006 at 17:41 #64147Well that is of course a matter of opinion of course, but I felt that Joacci was too far back in the field and given the style and distance (15l) that Eurotrek won with I don’t believe Joacci would have got close to him.
You’re getting stuck in today aren’t you? Tell you what, you shove your pension ( ) on Joacci and push Eurotreks price out for me.
Also I feel that Eurotrek is has much more to come and looking at the last race I don’t see why Joacci is given favouritism over Joacci. If you want I’ll have a sporting bet – Eurotrek to beat Joacci at 1/1. Also, if Eurotrek finishes he won’t be out of the top four (I’m there to be shot at now I know) so with 1/4 1-2-3-4 I think Eurotrek is real value at 7/1.

February 15, 2006 at 21:07 #64148Too far back? You didn’t see the position he came from at Cheltenham then? I’m not a particularly big fan of Joacci, I won’t be backing him on Saturday (especially when he holds entries in three races this weekend at the minute). But Eurotrek is hardly thrown in at the weights these days having risen 13 lb for what wasn’t in hindsdight all that competitive race at Warwick. He’ll also be without Walsh who was at his best conserving the horses energy all the way round. I wouldn’t want to be involved in the race at this stage with Pipe having four or five possibles but Juveigneur of Henderson’s will stay the trip and isn’t badly treated on Betfred form.
And what’s the dig regarding my age all about? Pensions? You couldn’t be further from the truth. I didn’t realise you only wanted a ‘Yes Man’ just to agree with you.
February 16, 2006 at 11:01 #64149I didn’t want "a yes man". I can’t work you out at all. If you’d have said you were going for Joacci or whatever it is your going for then fair enough.
But instead you went for what I consider a snide remark, not giving your opinion but just saying I’m totally wrong. If that’s the case fair enough, but there must be nicer ways of saying that?
As for a pension what was it you said to me in the Grand National thread – "firmly tongue in cheek"?
Also, I didn’t say Eurotrek was thrown in at the weights nor that he would win, but the only thing that will (in my opinion) stop him from being in the final four is if it doesn’t complete the course.
February 17, 2006 at 18:38 #64150Ok you may be right DJ. I doubt very much you will get 7/1 about Eurotrek on Saturday and I still think Eurotrek will at least place but I see Joacci has got Glassonbury (-7) on board. If Joacci wins I’ll let you have the pleasure of watching me eat my words one by one. I also like What a Native and l’Aventure but let’s see what happens.
February 17, 2006 at 23:11 #64151I think Joacci has a stiff task on conceding weight all round, 7-lb claimer or not. Whether Joacci wins by 30 lengths or is pulled up is immaterial to my initial point which was that when Joacci was brought down before they’d gone a mile in a 3m 5f handicap, it was too early to say he was beaten at the time.
Incidentally I’ll be backing Sir Rembrandt at 12/1. He gets 15 lbs turnaround in the weights for a 15-length beating from Eurotrek and with Martson taking over I hope he gets a bit more assistance in the saddle. It is last chance saloon for him though as I thought he looked a proper slow boat at Warwick.
February 18, 2006 at 17:00 #64152Well you jumps Ante-Post portfolio isn’t looking too hot at the minute. Rescue it by adding Lord of Illusion for the National.
February 18, 2006 at 23:17 #64153can’t help but think clan royal for the national
