On my way down to the start for the July Cup this afternoon I spotted Aidan O’Brien walking the course. I wanted to get a picture but I didn’t want to be rude so I asked,

    “May I take a picture Mr O’Brien?”

    He replied immediately,

    “No problem.”

Unfortunately I was that surprised at his politeness that I didn’t think to step under the rail for my picture, but never mind.

Feeling a little more confident I said,

“It was a shame about the filly yesterday Sir.”

Again he immediately responded, quite happy to chat, and agreed telling me that she had hated the ground. I asked if he thought she still had a big race in her this season and he told me,

“Oh definitely. She’ll win before the season’s out!”

We then went on to chat about Camelot. I asked what he thought of Gosden’s horse and he told me that it would be stiff competition and that it would make for an interesting race. I said that in my humble opinion his horse looked like being even better suited by a mile and three quarters and he said he thought it looks that way too. I wished him the best of luck with the Triple Crown and told him that I was now off down to the start to get some pictures. He asked my first name, which I told him and then put his hand out to shake mine. It truly made my day! What an absolute gentleman he is.

I hope Camelot wins doing handstands! :)
