Following Archipenko’s example earlier this year, Frost Giant by Giant’s Causeway-Takesmybreathaway(Gone West) won the Grade1 Suburban Handicap at Belmont yesterday.

The race was 10f on the dirt. Frost Giant was passed in the stretch by a very good Argentinian horse called Solar Flare but fought back with courage and determination to regain the advantage. Sound familiar?

Both Frost Giant and Heatseeker (unfortunately had to be pulled from the Hollywood Gold Cup yesterday due to injury – would have gone off heavy favourite) are from the seemingly disappointing second crop of Giant’s Causeway. They seem to be improving with age! Is there more to come from them or indeed from other older GCs?

Regarding Frost Giant – who is trained by the embattled Rick Dutrow – he was off the track all of 2007, I don’t know why.

I think Giants Causeway just didnt cover the same horses in his second year, although I was on heatseeker antepost for the 2006 2000 guineas and when he was pulled out, I had a little go on Frost Giant on the day.

It is good to see that they have finally come good. But afterthe impression giants causeway made in 2004, 2005 and 2006 with his first crop (which saw his price go up from 38,000 Euros to $340,000 to "private", I expect that we will start to see resurgence of him on the racecourse, he is an amazing sire.

Looking forward to shamardal’s first crop too.

40-1 trained by Dutrow for IEAH (like Big Brown). Many players are suspicious…

On a Giants Causeway related issue. Mark Johnson has a full brother to his stable’s mega star Shamardal, YORGUNNABELUCKY is down to run at sandown on Friday (at present, but Johnson has a couple in), a late foal, he was second on debut, and should be more than capable of building on that. Glad the Owners of Helsinki have returned her to Giants Causeway again.

Ineterestingly, of Giants Causeways top class progeny, most were out of mr prospector mares. Footstepsinthesand aside he has had.

    Maids Causeway (Kingmambo)
    Shamardal (Machiavellian)
    Aragorn (Mr Prospector himself)
    Heatseaker (Defensive Play)
    Frost Giant ( Gone West)

Hence the reason I find YORGUNNABELUCKY an exciting prospect, as with John Oxxs RED EYE EXPRESS (he has several entries later this month from 7f to 1m2f).
