Socialism is workers’ control of the means of production, surely? Is Platini really suggesting that, say, Manchester United should be expropriated from the current set of owners and handed over to Wayne Rooney et al? That should shake the Premiership up a bit.
May 31, 2009 at 12:01 #231211Don’t be fooled into thinking that the Platini gripe is some noble, fair-play all-round doctrine. It’s the kind of unthought-through jealousy of the success of others (in this case the English) that is typical of the small-minded socialist.
I seem to remember Chelsea fans moaning about rich clubs pre-Abramovich and Man C fans similarly moaning more recently.
With the serious money bypassing Celtic/Scotland doesn’t this dilute the ‘size’ of the big scottish clubs turning them into another Newcastle, ie, great support but destined only ever to be whipping boys when playing where the big teams play?
However, some major money capping would suddenly bring the teams that have more supporters than ability back to the spending power levels of the rest.
Sad it is but these spending levels are in every sport, imagine telling Ballydoyle that there must be top prices on a horse and maybe introducing F1 style limits on operations, etc.
