he’s 100% spot on!
May 19, 2009 at 12:17 #228646Whilst there are notable exceptions, the gist of what he says is pretty much spot on.
It is very easy to make sweeping generalisations along the lines of "the foods cr*p", however that is unfair to a large number of courses who do make an effort and do have good quality food at reasonable prices.
May 19, 2009 at 12:53 #228653He would recognise "pompous" though wouldn’t he?!

May 19, 2009 at 13:05 #228658I agree with im on the pricing of some of the courses, they are very expensive.
May 19, 2009 at 13:13 #228660absolutely spot on,although which course is his Bette Noir?

I wouldn’t have Andy Stewart marked down as pompous tbh.
May 19, 2009 at 13:50 #228664Me neither. One can only speak as one finds, but along with Bill Frewen, he was the owner most approachable and giving freely of his time to us on-air all season, win lose or draw. Nothing huffy or self-important about him that we could see.

May 19, 2009 at 14:23 #228669Well, I’ll have to bow to the opinion of people who have met the man; I have only seen him on the box.
Apologies, Mr. Stewart sir.

May 19, 2009 at 15:46 #228684Andy Stewart:- Wasn’t he the guy back in the days of black and white television and come on every New Years Eve and sing about ‘Donald ‘s Troosers’ .
May 19, 2009 at 19:42 #228729Yes he was, Ken Bruce did a version for the Children in Need Charity CD.
May 19, 2009 at 23:15 #228787I like AS. Hes good value
But I would like to know where he gets this idea that NH racing is "cheaper" than flat racing. And the food better? What?
Ascot (wonder if that was the course he meant) was £8 prebooked into grandstand for Sagaro stakes day. Champions day at Newmarket is a lot cheaper than any equivalent NH meeting
May 20, 2009 at 09:52 #228897Although Andy Stewart is mega rich the last thing he is is pompous.
While he owns many properties around the World he also has one in Sussex.
When he was using one of the gyms in Brighton he got talking to someone about his horses and he ended up paying for a minibus and the entrance fee and a meal in his private box for 12 of the regulars of the Lewes Road Ladbrokes to actually go racing at Cheltenham.
He he has often been seen ‘talking horses’ The Prestonville pub where incedentally the father of the late and great Graham Rock also frequents.
Known by the regulars as a good source of good ‘tips’.How many would name a major finanicial company after one of your favourite horses (Cenkos) as Andy did rather than some name such as Stewart Asset Management or Stewart Global Funding.
A bigger fan of National Hunt racing would be hard to find but his companies provide pension fund planning and raise finance for many of the major comapnies such as Stagecoach and Eddie Stobart so it must be a big relief for him to forget the City’s worries for a day to watch his horses run.
He also raises a lot of money through his racing charity days at Plumpton.
Only time I have seen his unhappy was when he arrived at Plumpton along with Mark Winstanley with a big dent in the door of his brand new Bentley when Mark opended the door at The Plough pub in the village and the door hit the wall so hard it was badly dented.
May 20, 2009 at 10:02 #228900I reckon his Bette Noir is Goodwood. You would have to go a long way to find a more pompous and full of its own importance racourse!

I wouldn’t call 141 miles a long way – Newmarket Rowley Mile course?
