    Hello all!

Can anyone tell me why Andy Orkney finished his commentating career a few years ago as I once heard him at Perth and thought he wasn’t bad?
I presume he just mainly covered the Northern part of the Country?

Also seen/heard him at the Zetland Hunt point to point today at Witton Castle and he dosen’t seem that old of guy.

I thought he lost his place on the rota as sometimes happens. He amused one day at Hexham by coming out with the comment that one of the runners had "muffed it" at the open ditch.

Andy lost his place on the Racetech roster at the end of 2005. "The Galloping Optician" was largely deployed up North in that capacity and remains so in point-to-point commentaries, though oddly the last time I saw / heard him in action was at Dingley in June 2006.

andy orkney was commentating at the bilsdale p2p at easingwold on saturday, and a v good job he made of it too despite the downpours and part of the track being behind a hill!

Noted! Yes, Easingwold isn’t an easy place to commentate, from memory – the callers stand on a barrow right at the top of the hill behind the paddock, tents, etc., but for which they haven’t an earthly’s of seeing the back straight.

Not among my very favourite pointing courses in that regard, though as mentioned previously they used to do – and may still do – the best hog roast baps on the entire planet.

Dreadful commentator, needs to see an optician if you ask me.
