Greg – my main man,
I’ll admit in the past I had my doubts about you. However, having recently revisited the Savill/Nicholls track record I now realise I made a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, I still think the time was a disaster for racing and we’re still reaping the harvest now. However, I’ve come to realise that all the bad ideas were his and all the good ones yours. I use the phrase ‘good ones’ in the plural when technically it should be the singular, but the idea to pay Alan Berry yaks appearance money to make up the numbers in each-way thieving races was such a master stroke I’ll acknowledge it twice.
Why this letter you ask? Well, I was attending an evening class at my local college last night and a thought struck me. We’re a stone’s throw away from Kempton here and I bet none of these young students have experience the delights. My plan is simple: hire a minibus and ship them down there once a month to introduce them to the spectacle. I reckon we could almost fill the minibus up if we offered to subsidise their entry, which is where you come in.
I’ll sling a Betfair logo on the side of the minibus and you can sponsor the whole club. What d’ya say? I reckon around half a bar should do it.
I await your earliest reply,
Glenn
November 9, 2007 at 17:38 #123809When last I heard, Greg Nicholls was in charge of some aspect of horseracing at Betfair and on the board at Timeform. He may not be the man to answer your prayers at this moment in time.
November 9, 2007 at 18:05 #123812According to page 8 of today’s Post the aspect of horse racing he’s involved in is handing over the sort of money Betfair paid a Premier League football club for shirt sponsorship to sponsor a string of four gaff track horses!
He apparently wants to encourage young people to go racing and I’m looking for a piece of the action.
