Scientists have been working on corona vaccines for years. And the current vaccines have gone through double blind trials and have been peer reviewed. My only problem with having the vaccine is knowing that, by doing so, not only am I protecting myself but also protecting people that, quite frankly, don’t deserve to be protected.

Perhaps Captain Robbo can tell me, with his/her extensive scientific knowledge, which are the ingredients in the vaccine that I should be concerned about? I’m willing to learn. I can’t help but think that some people just have a needle phobia but are too embarrassed to admit it….

Got my first (Pfizer) vacc 4 days ago, as part of the 60-65 age group; a great relief, tho it will take ~ 3 weeks for immunity to build up. 2nd vacc booked for early May

My left triceps has just received two texts: one from Bill Gates, one from George Soros asking me if I’d like to join their growing band of satan-worshipping cannibals who’re going to take over the world

‘Yes please!’ I quickly replied with that familiar skeletal shortcut of tapping the funny bone

Some berk told me that this jab is also a ‘vaccine’ reputed to reduce the risk of catching something called ‘covid’ but that is obviously a conspiracy theory from those nutjobs known as ‘scientists’ designed to worry the more gullible members of the public

Anyone who thinks questioning of the last year we have endured is confined to conspiracy theorists might like to consider this well argued critique from a self-styled “four decades, veteran, revolutionary working class socialist”:

Questioning and continuing to question the manner in which the pandemic has been handled and will be handled is important; but that is far removed from conspiratorial questioning of the vaccines, the development and efficient roll-out of which has been remarkable and is the lone shining star in a black void of benefit-of-hindsight balls-ups

“veteran, revolutionary working class socialist” does put one off somewhat but, hey, my mind is open so I’ll read it

Open mind, open mind, all is opinion, all is opinion: a mantra worth repeating and repeating

I question most things about this pandemic, especially the governments handling of it. The one thing I don’t question is the safety/efficacy of the vaccine. My one concern however is that the vaccine is being regarded as the be all and end all and therapeutics etc are being largely ignored. Although I understand that President Biden has recently put a lot of money into therapeutics.

Had mine today. Superbly efficient and friendly. Britain at its best

In the Observer of all papers, it was admitted that at current rate in France they expect all adults to be vaccinated bye March…

I’m not sure that’s true moe. Many UK institutions investigate monoclonal antibody drugs to block the cytokines (inflammatory mediators) that kick off the spiral of destruction in severe inflammatory disease processes and at least two of these -mab drugs have been approved for use in the UK for covid patients in recent months. Well before covid was ever heard of research was going on into acute respiratory distress syndrome … now those researchers are probably getting research money firehosed at them instead of having to beg and scrabble for funding!

Much of Europe is now experiencing another rise in cases; both France and Italy with comparable populations to ours have recorded 25,000+ in the last 24hrs, and Poland with significantly less 21,000

Whether this is linked to the slow roll-out of the vaccines I wouldn’t care to speculate

Worryingly there seems to have been an increase in cases in Britain in the last week.

No great surprise Colin, since Boris announced the “roadmap” more people are taking a more relaxed approach to the current restrictions. It seems they see the roadmap as a green light to do what they want now.

Although by no means scientific and only anecdotal, I’ve certainly noticed more traffic on the roads and when dog walking, instead of seeing mainly couples out walking, there are more larger groups out and about.

People are becoming complacent, which is what happened, initially in Israel. Which is a worry given that the new variants have an increased risk of death. My daughter, who is a worrier like me, feels that her friends who are in the next age group to be vaccinated will be more complacent. She said it reminded her of going to clubs to see bands with slightly older friends and worrying about not being allowed in [she was one of the youngest in her year group at school]. Yes, there are more people/cars etc around. And, as I was bending down near to the school to pick up some dog poo this afternoon [thanks Winnie whippet] two people crossed the road and walked past me closer than the recommended 6ft. I know it was outside but we’ve spent months having to move away from people; it’s always us that moves away. And people rarely acknowledge or thank us. Or, worse still, look at us as if we’re deranged in some way. Sigh….

Colin. Cases depend on testing which is running at highest levels yet I believe. It’s not much of a stat

What’s key is hospital admissions and the6 are falling rapidly

Also people should definitely be out and about and they should be travelling too otherwise you simply end up with overcrowded public spaces.

Drone that’s precisely it. Much to the bitter disappointment of the wrist slashing doomongers the vaccines have been out performing on every metric including transmission. Look at the results from Israel.

    Moe. How old is daughter?

If under 50 the chances of dying without a serious pre condition (or perhaps being a compete obese Lardo) are tiny

We can’t all hide away for ever.

Didn’t the doomongers and weird anti Vaxxers ever watch Sarah Gilbert last summer? Wasn’t it obviously that this was someone who knew full well they had nailed it? Can’t people read people?

Should never be forgotten that the media were all over epidemiologists telling us YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE also never underestimate professional jealousy towards those with a genuine solution as well as a love of media attention cushioned by a big salary and no risk to income.
