No chance of sending him left-handed/up north Darren? Given how he jumped and how he perhaps found Sandown a little stiff given his running style, I’d say he’s a perfect candidate for the Red Rum chase at Aintree next year if he gets a fair mark.

Three of his last four chase wins have been at Baden-Baden (left handed) and the other one at Mannheim (figure of eight), so he can really go either way. 2 miles at Aintree (or maybe even Ayr) would be absolutely perfect – but it’s a bit of a way in the box to be honest. That’s why we tend to stick to the Midlands and South – we would probably need to stable him somewhere overnight. To be honest, the perfect race would be the Peterborough Chase over 2 miles – but it isn’t!!!

    And as for Amicelli…

Thanks for that Jeremy – excellent report, and nice to hear he won. As for going left/right handed, I think all his best form in Germany was left handed, but he seems pretty versatile. as for the distance, well he wasn’t stopping in the Foxhunters, so I would guess he’d get the 3 1/2 miles of the Horse and Hound.

Just a quick update on Fiepes. We’ve really struggled to find a race for him, and we did run him on the flat a couple of weeks ago as he’s in such good form, but he really needs a good steeplechase. As there is nothing in England, he’s running at Auteuil on Friday, and tonight, Christian has told me that Phil Carberry will ride him. We weren’t sure if we would run, but the race has really cut up, and with still 3 days to go, there are only 9 runners.

There are a couple of concerns we have. First, the race isn’t quite as short as we would like – it’s 2m 1 1/2 f, but there’s nothing for him at 2m. Also, Auteuil is known for soft ground, but he should handle that. My main concern, however, is that HUGE water jump in front of the stands – let’s just hope he clears it.

Fact is, the course and distance might not be ideal, but it’s good prize money (50,000 Euros), and with only 9 currently in the race, it’s worth going for.
